All Natural Bug Spray

All Natural Bug Spray
We’ve been spending a lot of time outside so far this summer.

While I’m loving all the extra Vitamin D that we’re getting, I’m not diggin’ the bug and mosquito bites at all!

I’ve been keeping a bottle of purification essential oil on hand to help with bug bites (which works wonderfully). While we were preparing to head out to river I throw together an all natural bug spray to protect my babies and I from the mosquitoes waiting to feast on us.

This spray works well, especially when it comes to keeping away mosquitoes!

Homemade All Natural Bug Spray

  1. Pour all the ingredients into the spray bottle. Twist on the cap and shake well. Always shake to mix oils together before using.

All Natural Bug Spray
  • 1 - 4 ounces bottle
  • 2 ounces unscented witch hazel
  • 2 ounces distilled water or fractionated coconut oil
  • 35 drops Citronella essential oil
  1. Pour all the ingredients into the spray bottle. Twist on the cap and shake well. Always shake to mix oils together before using.

I am just wondering why the picture shows Theives and Purification, when the recipe calls for Witch Hazel and Citronella? Is there a connection? Thanks.

Hi Rebecca! The original recipe called for the oil blends in the picture but due to FDA regulations I had to change the recipe to only use Citronella Essential Oil since that is the only oil the FDA approved of as a natural bug repellent. :/

Oh! Go figure! They wouldn’t want us using too many natural remedies, now would they? “Theoretically” speaking, could one mix a few ounces of coconut oil with say 5 drops each of Thieves and Purification and mist it on a blanket on which we sit at our picnic. 😉 😉

I very much enjoy all your posts and info you give. I’m pretty new at this, but I really have always had an interest in traditional healing products. I’m a fan! Thanks.
