Lime Essential Oil Uses

Lime essential oil has been used more in my home this summer over any other essential oil! I love the smell of it when diffused – I like to diffuse it along with grapefruit for extra zing! A single drop of lime vitality can turn a beverage or dish into something incredible! I add just one drop in my water, juice, coconut water kefir, guacamole or salsa. It’s AMAZING!!!

11 Ways To Use Lime Essential Oil

Lime essential oil is cold pressed from the rinds of fresh limes.

It can be used topically (it’s great for your skin) and taken internally as a dietary supplement (Lime Vitality Essential Oil is considered safe as a food additive by the FDA).

Lime Essential Oil & Lime Vitality Essential Oil

In the United States, the FDA has declared essential oils can be labeled either as a dietary supplement for ingestion or as a cosmetic for aromatic and or typical use. It cannot be labeled as both. To satisfy the FDA retirement, Young Living created the Vitality line of essential oils to identify the most common essential oils that are used internally.

Many of the Vitality essential oils are also great topically and aromatically which is why they are available with and without the Vitaly label. Below are some of my favorite ways to use Lime Essential Oil and Lime Vitality.

Lime Essential Oil Uses: Topical

Lime is a great essential oil to add to your homemade skin care products. I use it in my homemade sugar scrub and body butter.

Something to keep in mind about lime is that you should avoid applying to skin that will be exposed to sunlight or UV light within 48 hours. Lime essential oil is phytotoxic and may cause skin irritation if it’s exposed to sunlight.

Lime essential oil is very calming! I use it to help reduce stress and to improve clarity of mind.

Here are some of my favorite skin care recipes using lime essential oil:

  1. Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub
  2. Homemade Lotion with Lime
  3. Lime Essential Oil Melts
  4. Lime Cilantro Soap
  5. Lime Mint Foot Soak

I use lime vitality essential oil in my kitchen more than any other essential oil. It adds so much flavor to my soups, dips and beverages.

Like other citrus oils, lime is rich in d-Limonene (read more about d-Limonene here). Lime essential oil also supports a healthy immune system and may aid in weight loss  when used in conjunction with a weight management or exercise program.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use lime vitality essential oil in the kitchen:

  1. Add 1-2 drops to your guacamole! I love this recipe.
  2. Add a drop to your homemade salsa or Pico de Gallo.
  3. Coconut Water Mojitos? Yes please! Make my homemade coconut water kefir and add 1 drop of lime vitality to the coconut water kefir before drinking.
  4. Try adding lime to your homemade salad dressing, sauces or marinades!
