Are you suffering with magnesium deficiency? It can be difficult to consume enough magnesium, even if you’re following a whole foods diet. But did you know that you can absorb magnesium through your skin? It’s actually the best way to get your daily dose of this wonderful mineral. Below is a recipe for homemade magnesium body butter made with pure ingredients that will nourish your skin.
Magnesium Body Butter
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
- 1/2 Cup Cocoa Butter
- 1/4 Cup Magnesium Oil
Directions
- Use a double boiler and melt the coconut oil and cocoa butter over medium heat.
- Once both oils are melted, add magnesium oil.
- Stir the oils and allow them to cool.
- Once the oils are cooled and hard you will want to whip them into a body butter.
- Use a hand mixer and whip the oils until the body butter is light and fluffy.
- Store body butter in a air tight container.
- Keeps for 6 months.
Very nice thank you
I’ve been researching magnesium body butter recipes to add to my collection of all natural skin and beauty products. The combination of coconut oil and cocoa butter can be a little greasy. I’ve seen other recipes where I is suggested to add arrowroot for a more matte feeling once absorbed. In your opinion, would this have any adverse affects to the final product or inhibit the absorption of the magnesium? Also, what about the addition of grape seed oil or vitamin e as a natural preservative? Thank you in advance.
Esperanza,
How do you apply the lotion to help your headaches? Do you put it on your temples or neck — or do you just apply it to your hands and feet, and it helps your headaches?
Regards,
Terez
I am 43 years old and have been getting horrible headaches since I was a teenager. Lately they were getting worse, lasting for days with vomiting at times. I have tried different types of medicines but sometimes they gave me other side effects. Sometimes going to the chiropractor would help. I started to look into other natural remedies and found out about the magnesium. I was taking a pill, it didn’t work right away and it was upsetting my stomach. I have been using the lotion with this recipe and my headaches have diminished tremendously.
Oh and to the separation, mine did that too but let it sit longer until it is all a solid and then whip it up.
This has made such a difference in my life. I add an essential oil thing from a local large chain, HEB, that is Omega 3-6-9 and evening Primrose Oil as well as a Tahitian noni oil from Shea Moisture. It has given my mother rest for the first time in 2 years. Not only does it smooth my skin but moles I’ve had all my life are decreasing in size and fading as are stretch marks and vericose veins. And because I only had a limited supply supply of my first batch I was only using it twice a day. After a month of use its starting to cause the older damaged skin on my Jan’s and feet to come off. As a woman who was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago, this has been one of my most valuable finds.
Glad this has been helpful to you, Victoria! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Maybe its the brand of Magnesium oil ? If u could tell us what oil u use that might help, thanks
I make my own magnesium oil – https://thecoconutmama.com/2013/05/how-to-make-magnesium-oil/
This recipe doesn’t work 🙁
It always separates. Because magnesium oil is actually a brine, it doesn’t mix with the other oils.
I’ve made it several times and it has worked every time. I’m not sure why you’re having trouble.. Sorry! 🙁
Can I mix magnesium oil with a natural already made body lotion?? If so what are the proportions?
Any ideas for restless leg syndrome, which would better, the body lotion or the spray?
what does Magnesium do for creams?
I had a really hard time getting the magnesium oil to stay mixed. I tried 2 different ways and in the end, the magnesium oil always separates from the other oil and runs out of the container. Any ideas?
Coconut oil melts if it too warm. Try putting it in the fridge and it will set then. QUESTION… can I use epsom salts in the oil instead as the other magnesium burns a little.?
Any idea how to “dose” it? For example, how much magnesium is there in a tsp and how much of that actually gets absorbed?
Hi,
I have the same question as Anne. I let the mixture cool and am trying to whip it with a hand mixture, and it’s just staying liquid. It’s about 55 degrees here and the heat is set to 66. Any ideas as to why it’s not whipping up? What can I add to make it do that? HELP!! Thanks!
Hi, I want to read the book, everyday roots, is it worth the read, I want to start making my own body lotions, butters & lip balms, has it got recipes etc in the book
I think it’s a wonderful book! It has a ton of recipes and great info.
I did this recipe yesterday after making my own magnesium oil the day before. It’s been almost a whole day and it hasn’t set yet, it’s still in liquid form. It’s not too hot in the house. How can I fix it? I have very little cocoa butter left.
Magnesium oil can be maid with magnesium chloride flakes and water. Click here to see my post on making it at home.
This makes me twitchy…….can you please fix it? thanks!
“can be MADE”
I look forward to making this later on
Do you have to use shea or cocoa butter? Could you just mix the coconut oil and magnesium?
Can I add essential oils to this?
Sure! Peace and Calming or Lavender would be wonderful and very relaxing. 🙂
I make my own deoderant with coconut oil, arrowroot powder or cornstarch, and baking soda. I am thinking about incorporate magnesium oil in the mix, since a lot of people recommend using the oil in the armpits. Have you ever tried this? Do you have any recommendations about using magnesium oil in a deoderant recipe?
What size jar will this moisturizer fit into?
Any jar recommendations?
Hi,
I want to make a serum or cream/lotion using mag oil. I plan on using Aloe Vera Gel (AVG) as my serum base and will also use it in the cream base. The aloe has a preservative. Will the MAG mix with the AVG to make the MAG Oil? I don’t want to have to use water because Zi don’t want to add any more preservative to the product. What do you think?!
Thank,
Imani
Yes, it’s OK to substitute Shea butter for the cocoa butter. This recipe just makes the magnesium absorb a bit quicker and combines the skin conditioning properties of the oil and butter with the benefits of magnesium.
This is great! Can I substitute Shea butter for the cocoa butter?
I have the same question.
I would love to make this so my whole family can use it! I accidentally bought Magnesium Gel instead of Oil, do you think it would still work?
I don’t think the gel and oils will mix! I’ve had trouble mixing aloe gel with coconut oil in the past.
