Freshen up your carpets with this DIY carpet deodorizer made with natural ingredients that work to stop odors from pets and spills.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the baking soda with your chosen essential oil. Stir well to evenly distribute the scent.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a shaker bottle (a spice jar or metal shaker works great).
  3. Lightly sprinkle the baking soda mixture over your carpets, covering all areas, especially near edges and walls.
  4. For deeper penetration, use a push broom to work the baking soda into the carpet fibers.
  5. Let it sit for at least 8 hours or overnight to absorb odors effectively.
  6. Vacuum thoroughly, going over the carpet multiple times to remove all the baking soda.
  7. Empty the vacuum canister or replace the bag, as baking soda can clog filters.

Repeat this process every few months or as needed to maintain fresh-smelling carpets between deep cleanings.
