Yield:1/2 cup1x
Ingredients
1/4 cup pure shea butter, grated
1 tablespoon pure cocoa butter, grated
1/8 cup vitamin e oil (or other neutral cooking oil such as safflower)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
20–30 drops almond or honey almond essential oil
Instructions
Create a double boiler by filling a small saucepan with ½ cup water. Bring to a simmer.
Place a glass bowl larger than the rim of the saucepan over the simmering water. This is now your double boiler.
Add the shea and cocoa butters to the bowl and melt them together. Once melted, remove the bowl from the simmering water carefully using heat-proof mitts.
In a separate glass bowl, mix the oil with the cornstarch until combined using a wooden utensil.
Once the butters are cooled to the touch, add the cornstarch mixture. Mix until combined.
Place the bowl into the fridge to solidify, about an hour.
Once solid, whip the mixture using a hand mixer, stand mixer, or a simple fork. Do not over whip!
Spoon into a glass storage jar with a lid. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
Notes
Unrefined shea butter has a scent to it, so use refined if you are sensitive to smells or want a pure almond scent.
Avoid using olive oil here, as it is heavy and can clog pores.
