This kid-friendly fire cider is a milder twist on the traditional herbal vinegar tonic, made without cayenne or horseradish.
Ingredients
- 2 cups raw apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 yellow onion, sliced
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 ounces fresh ginger, sliced
- 1/2 lemon, sliced with peel
- 1/4 orange, sliced with peel
- 1/4 apple, chopped
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 2 tablespoons dried elderberries
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 2 tablespoons raw honey, or to taste
Instructions
- Add the onion, garlic, ginger, lemon, orange, apple, cinnamon sticks, cloves, elderberries, and rosemary to a clean pint jar.
- Pack the ingredients gently until the jar is about three-quarters full.
- Pour the apple cider vinegar over the ingredients until everything is fully submerged, leaving about 1 inch of headspace.
- Cover with a plastic lid, or place parchment or wax paper underneath a metal lid.
- Label the jar with the date.
- Store in a cool, dark cabinet and shake gently every day.
- Infuse for 3–4 weeks, making sure the ingredients remain submerged. Add more vinegar if needed.
- Strain through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth, pressing the solids to extract the liquid.
- Stir in honey until dissolved.
- Store the finished fire cider in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.
How to Serve
