Intro

Buc-ee’s, the beloved convenience store chain operating in nine states (not just Texas anymore!), is about to grow quite a bit.
The company has only independently confirmed a couple of the following proposed locations, BUT I’ve included the others based on a combination of official government statements, planned filings by Buc-ee’s, and independent sleuthing.
One note before we get started:

Buc-ee’s strategy

I’ve observed that Buc-ee’s has a strategy when opening new stores (like the three coming to just one state), and really it’s pretty simple:
– Pick an interstate with LOTS of traffic
– Find a natural stopping point (often an exurb of a big city)
– Get cheap land
– Build
This makes sense given that Buc-ee’s stores have a big land footprint and hundreds of parking spaces – no need to pay a premium for land if you can find a town that’s a natural stopping point along the way.

It’s an experience

This all matters because – visiting Buc-ee’s is a carefully curated EXPERIENCE.
The clean bathrooms.
The hot food and bbq.
The sweets.
The merch.
All the options.
If you’ve been, you know.
And if you haven’t, well, I have good news…

A new opportunity to love Buc-ee’s

Because when these new Buc-ee’s locations develop…
Millions more Americans will be in driving distance of wonderful treats like Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets, kolaches, and chopped brisket sandwiches for the first time.
Starting with a new location that was just announced last week:

#1: Near Tallahassee, Florida

Florida currently has just two Buc-ee’s, but that’s about to change in a big way, as there are now a whopping FOUR additional locations planned.
One of them is off I-10 near Tallahassee, a natural location given that Buc-ee’s has been building along I-10 further west and there’s tons of cross-state traffic passing through on its way east to Jacksonville.
Shutterstock
#2: Stafford, Virginia

Stafford is kind of the perfect location for a Buc-ee’s – it’s right next to I-95, the enormous highway that stretches from Maine all the way down to Florida, and Stafford itself is smack-dab in between Richmond and Washington, DC.
That’s a lot of commuter traffic, a lot of traveling traffic, just a lot of traffic!

#3: Boerne, Texas

Boerne is right off I-10 and a natural stopping point on your way to and from San Antonio.
There have been construction delays, but Buc-ee’s has broken ground, and my best guess is that the location should be ready sometime in 2026.

#4: New Kent, Virginia

New Kent is an exurb of Richmond and right off the I-64 corridor, which connects Richmond and Hampton Roads.
A natural place to go with tons of traffic.
Construction has commenced, but the delivery date has been pushed back to 2027.

#5: Rockingham County, Virginia

If you’ve never heard of Rockingham County, I don’t blame you.
It’s a rural county near I-81, a popular trucker route on the western spine of Virginia. (I-81 also deposits millions of tourists near Shenandoah National Forest.)
Rockingham is pretty much the ideal place because – get this – it’s right next to Harrisonburg, which has James Madison University, enrollment 20,000+.
That’s a whole lot of students, alumni, and parents who are gonna love Buc-ee’s!
Especially with this location poised to open in a few days … on Monday June 30th, 2025 at 6AM!

Why three locations in Virginia?

I want to pause for a moment and address the question I know a lot of you are asking:
Why does Virginia get THREE new Buc-ee’s?
That hardly seems fair, right?
But the truth of the matter is that Virginia is lucky enough to have lots of cheap land and operates at the crossroads of several major highways – I-81 for truckers and out to the West, I-64 from Richmond and Charlottesville to Hampton Roads, and I-95 as it passes through from DC on its way down to Atlanta and ultimately Florida.
It checks all the boxes – so much so that there’s a rumored fourth location being planned, although we don’t yet know where it is.
With that, on to our next location:

#6: DeForest, Wisconsin

The DeForest Planning and Zoning Commission received a proposal from Buc-ee’s in 2023 to build, and anyone who knows Wisconsin can see why.
DeForest is just North of Madison on I-90, which connects Madison to Minneapolis in Minnesota.
Shutterstock
#7: Ocala, Florida

Ocala is just north of The Villages (and therefore Orlando) in Florida, so there’s a ton of natural traffic as people head to Disney.
Construction hasn’t started yet here; in fact, bidding on the interchange required for Buc-ee’s isn’t expected to begin until later this summer. So stay tuned for updates as we learn more!

#8: Huber Heights, Ohio

The mayor of Huber Heights has announced that Buc-ee’s is planning to open up there – and again, you can see why.
Huber Heights lives at the interchange of I-70 (East to West) and I-75 (North to South) and is just north of Dayton, Ohio.
I-70 connects Columbus to Indiana and is a popular trucking route.
There were some delays due to water rights issues, so construction is now expected to complete sometime in early 2026 (a delay from late 2025).

#9: Fort Pierce, Florida

Fort Pierce is another natural spot for a Buc-ee’s: It’s just off I-95 and directly north of Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and eventually Miami.
A great stopping-off point for Spring Break travelers!
Shutterstock
#10: Harrison County, Mississippi

This would be Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s!
Harrison County is home to Biloxi and Gulfport, and I-10 rolls right through from Mobile, Alabama on its way to New Orleans.

#11: Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Tennessee already has two Buc-ee’s – but both are in the eastern part of the state (Kodak and Crossville, on the eastern and western approaches to Knoxville).
The next build will be in Murfreesboro, just south of Nashville, and should vacuum up lots of traffic commuting on I-24 down to Chattanooga.
Reportedly this Buc-ee’s will be over 76,000 square feet, which would eclipse the current largest Buc-ee’s (and largest convenience store) in the world.
Shutterstock
#12: Port Charlotte, Florida

Zoning has been approved for the project that will house the first Buc-ee’s in Southwest Florida.
Specifically, the Buc-ee’s will be in Port Charlotte and should be one of the large 70,000 square foot-plus footprints.
Shutterstock
#13: Benton, Arkansas

Buc-ee’s selected Benton, a little-known suburb of Little Rock, as the lucky recipient of its very first location in Arkansas.
And I think that’s for two very simple reasons:
First off, Benton is in a great location right off I-30 to capture all the traffic from Dallas to Little Rock.
And secondly – and perhaps more importantly – it’s conveniently located next to several big state and national parks:
– Lake Ouachita State Park
– Hot Springs National Park
– Lake Catherine State Park
And more.
They broke ground in April 2025, and it’s currently set to open in September 2026.

Summary

When you put it all together, these locations make sense.
The vast majority of them lean on Buc-ee’s traditional appeal to southern states, and every one of them meets the criteria that many observers have learned to expect from Buc-ee’s:
– Find an interstate with LOTS of traffic
– Look for a natural stopping point (often an exurb of a big city) with plenty of people already stopping
– Get cheap land (not in an expensive suburb)
– Build
