Intro

Buc-ee’s, the beloved convenience store chain operating in nine states (not just Texas anymore!), is about to grow quite a bit.
The company has only independently confirmed a couple of the following proposed locations, BUT I’ve included the others based on a combination of official government statements, planned filings by Buc-ee’s, and independent sleuthing.
One note before we get started:

Buc-ee’s strategy

I’ve observed that Buc-ee’s has a strategy when opening new stores (like the three coming to just one state), and really it’s pretty simple:
– Pick an interstate with LOTS of traffic
– Find a natural stopping point (often an exurb of a big city)
– Get cheap land
– Build
This makes sense given that Buc-ee’s stores have a big land footprint and hundreds of parking spaces – no need to pay a premium for land if you can find a town that’s a natural stopping point along the way.
Shutterstock
It’s an experience

This all matters because – visiting Buc-ee’s is a carefully curated EXPERIENCE.
The clean bathrooms.
The hot food and bbq.
The sweets.
The merch.
All the options.
If you’ve been, you know.
And if you haven’t, well, I have good news…

A new opportunity to love Buc-ee’s

Because when these new Buc-ee’s locations develop…
Millions more Americans will be in driving distance of wonderful treats like Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets, kolaches, and chopped brisket sandwiches for the first time.
Starting with a new location that was just announced last week:

#1: Near Tallahassee, Florida

Florida currently has just two Buc-ee’s, but that’s about to change in a big way, as there are now a whopping FOUR additional locations planned.
One of them is off I-10 near Tallahassee, a natural location given that Buc-ee’s has been building along I-10 further west and there’s tons of cross-state traffic passing through on its way east to Jacksonville.
Shutterstock
#2: Stafford, Virginia

Stafford is kind of the perfect location for a Buc-ee’s – it’s right next to I-95, the enormous highway that stretches from Maine all the way down to Florida, and Stafford itself is smack-dab in between Richmond and Washington, DC.
That’s a lot of commuter traffic, a lot of traveling traffic, just a lot of traffic!
Shutterstock
#3: Boerne, Texas

Boerne is right off I-10 and a natural stopping point on your way to and from San Antonio.
There have been construction delays, but Buc-ee’s has broken ground, and my best guess is that the location should be ready sometime in 2026.
Shutterstock
#4: New Kent, Virginia

New Kent is an exurb of Richmond and right off the I-64 corridor, which connects Richmond and Hampton Roads.
A natural place to go with tons of traffic.
Construction has commenced, but the delivery date has been pushed back to 2027.
Shutterstock
#5: Rockingham County, Virginia

If you’ve never heard of Rockingham County, I don’t blame you.
It’s a rural county near I-81, a popular trucker route on the western spine of Virginia. (I-81 also deposits millions of tourists near Shenandoah National Forest.)
Rockingham is pretty much the ideal place because – get this – it’s right next to Harrisonburg, which has James Madison University, enrollment 20,000+.
That’s a whole lot of students, alumni, and parents who are gonna love Buc-ee’s!
Especially with this location poised to open in a few days … on Monday June 30th, 2025 at 6AM!
Shutterstock
Why three locations in Virginia?

I want to pause for a moment and address the question I know a lot of you are asking:
Why does Virginia get THREE new Buc-ee’s?
That hardly seems fair, right?
But the truth of the matter is that Virginia is lucky enough to have lots of cheap land and operates at the crossroads of several major highways – I-81 for truckers and out to the West, I-64 from Richmond and Charlottesville to Hampton Roads, and I-95 as it passes through from DC on its way down to Atlanta and ultimately Florida.
It checks all the boxes – so much so that there’s a rumored fourth location being planned, although we don’t yet know where it is.
With that, on to our next location:
Shutterstock
#6: DeForest, Wisconsin

The DeForest Planning and Zoning Commission received a proposal from Buc-ee’s in 2023 to build, and anyone who knows Wisconsin can see why.
DeForest is just North of Madison on I-90, which connects Madison to Minneapolis in Minnesota.
Shutterstock
#7: Ocala, Florida

Ocala is just north of The Villages (and therefore Orlando) in Florida, so there’s a ton of natural traffic as people head to Disney.
Construction hasn’t started yet here; in fact, bidding on the interchange required for Buc-ee’s isn’t expected to begin until later this summer. So stay tuned for updates as we learn more!

Shutterstock
#8: Huber Heights, Ohio

The mayor of Huber Heights has announced that Buc-ee’s is planning to open up there – and again, you can see why.
Huber Heights lives at the interchange of I-70 (East to West) and I-75 (North to South) and is just north of Dayton, Ohio.
I-70 connects Columbus to Indiana and is a popular trucking route.
There were some delays due to water rights issues, so construction is now expected to complete sometime in early 2026 (a delay from late 2025).
Shutterstock
#9: Fort Pierce, Florida

Fort Pierce is another natural spot for a Buc-ee’s: It’s just off I-95 and directly north of Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and eventually Miami.
A great stopping-off point for Spring Break travelers!
Shutterstock
#10: Harrison County, Mississippi

This would be Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s!
Harrison County is home to Biloxi and Gulfport, and I-10 rolls right through from Mobile, Alabama on its way to New Orleans.

#11: Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Tennessee already has two Buc-ee’s – but both are in the eastern part of the state (Kodak and Crossville, on the eastern and western approaches to Knoxville).
The next build will be in Murfreesboro, just south of Nashville, and should vacuum up lots of traffic commuting on I-24 down to Chattanooga.
Reportedly this Buc-ee’s will be over 76,000 square feet, which would eclipse the current largest Buc-ee’s (and largest convenience store) in the world.
Shutterstock
#12: Port Charlotte, Florida

Zoning has been approved for the project that will house the first Buc-ee’s in Southwest Florida.
Specifically, the Buc-ee’s will be in Port Charlotte and should be one of the large 70,000 square foot-plus footprints.
Shutterstock
#13: Benton, Arkansas

Buc-ee’s selected Benton, a little-known suburb of Little Rock, as the lucky recipient of its very first location in Arkansas.
And I think that’s for two very simple reasons:
First off, Benton is in a great location right off I-30 to capture all the traffic from Dallas to Little Rock.
And secondly – and perhaps more importantly – it’s conveniently located next to several big state and national parks:
– Lake Ouachita State Park
– Hot Springs National Park
– Lake Catherine State Park
And more.
They broke ground in April 2025, and it’s currently set to open in September 2026.
Shutterstock
Summary

When you put it all together, these locations make sense.
The vast majority of them lean on Buc-ee’s traditional appeal to southern states, and every one of them meets the criteria that many observers have learned to expect from Buc-ee’s:
– Find an interstate with LOTS of traffic
– Look for a natural stopping point (often an exurb of a big city) with plenty of people already stopping
– Get cheap land (not in an expensive suburb)
– Build

Where do we need more Buc-ee’s?

Where should Buc-ee’s build next?
Remember the criteria in the previous slide…
And then let us know in the comments!

Southern Illinois, Interstate 57, from Chicago South to the Kentucky and west Missouri.
How about the Elko, NV area – about halfway between Salt Lake City, UT (229 mi) and Reno, NV (289 mi) on I-80.
In Indiana either between Indianapolis and Chicago on I-65 or between Indianapolis and
Fort Wayne on I-69
Grand Rapids, MI
PLEASE!!!
Note, the Deforest WI one has basically been cancelled because the city does not want to play ball ( I’m sure Kwik Trip has a big thing to do with this also).
Instead they are looking at Oak Creek, WI
I moved from Texas a little over two years ago and I MISS MY BUC-EES (and Chuy’s, Rudy’s, Schlotzskey’s (you get the idea). You need to build a Buckee’s near Boston, MA. The whole state of Massachusetts is just a “big county in west Texas” in size.
Hagerstown, Md. is perfect because there are 2 major highways — 70 and 81. We are 30 minutes from Frederick, Md. and on the border of Pennsylvania.
How come you did not list the one that is set to be built in West Memphis, Arkansas? I know I have seen local news reports of one being built along I-40/I-55.
Perfect location I-85 between Atlanta GA and Greenville S.C. Best location probably is in SC cheaper gas between state border and Anderson SC. My brother use to do the Greenville to Atlanta commute daily he can tell the traffic is always heavy. For me it would be a great stop when headed to the promised land Clemson
Massachusetts to North conway
Cabazon California between banning and Palm Springs. There is lots of traffic on the 10 freeway in both directions, Also there is plenty of open space to build.
need Buc-ee’s on I 20 west in Georgia
Interstate 84 in PA is mostly forest but before it turns east is Scranton. There is only one big gas station from Scranton to Milford and there are several commercial spots.
Need on in OK along I35 near Kansas border or on I44 between OKC and Tulsa or anywhere along I40. So many interstates cross thru OK.
North of Pittsburgh, Pa. Cranberry area. Along I-79 and the I-76 turnpike in between the I-80 as well.
Casa Grande, Arizona – along one of the busiest stretches of I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix
I think Statesville,NC would be a good fit for me because I-40 and I-77 intersect here. Charlotte,NC is to the south and Winston-Salem, is to the east which has some of the best hospitals in the south. The I-77 interstate has a large flow of traffic coming from Ohio regions going to Myrtle Beach, SC There is also a lot of traffic flow going to the Appalachain mountains. We would love to see a Buc-ee’s here.
Does Buc-ees have plans for a Michigan store? I have 2 in mind if you guys are looking for feedback. One just north of Flint in Mt. Morris I-75 off of Mt Morris rd with a truckstop across the street. The other one be somewhere south of the Mackinaw Bridge area off of I-75
We here in Louisiana keep hearing rumors of a new Buc-ee’s going it at I-20 and the Tarbutton Road exit just west of Ruston, Louisiana. Nestled in between Louisiana Tech University and Grambling University and across the road from Ruston Junior High School. We keep getting updates on the new interstate exit that LaDOTD built, and the highway improvements being made to Tarbutton Road to support a new Buc-ee’s, but I never see Ruston, LA on any of the new Buc-ee’s lists. 32°32’39″N, 92°40’48″W
put one in MUCIE IN
Sacramento CA, in between the Bay Area and Tahoe
Columbus Ohio – centered between Pittsburg and Indianapolis and Cleveland Akron Youngstown, and Cincinnati, on path to Detroit. North south and east west routes located.
Hi, Upstate NY just outside of the Syracuse City area (Clay NY) We have Amazon and Micron is now building in the Clay area We have Syracuse University Multiple New Hotels being built and have the 10th largest Shopping Mall in America in Destiny USA, Lots of new businesses and housing have been built in the past 10yrs and continue to build in the upstate area especially around Clay NY, We have a large Population between the City and the Suburbs And Major Highways like 81,481 And the Thruway 90 which connects short drives to major cities like Buffalo NY, Rochester NY, Albany NY, Syracuse NY and only 4hrs away from NYC / Long Island NY, Lots and Lots of Traffic Plus our Local Governments have been giving 10yrs plus of tax free payments on land and we have a lot of cheap land, I visited a Buckees when I was in Texas this Past Fall and it was over an hour drive from where we were each way so I know people would drive from all over NY state to go to Buckees, I fell in love with Buckees and I order on line from them often now and I know Buckees would do Amazing here !!!! Please Consider building here
Between Boston and Cape Cod Massachusetts.
See them all over the place but never been inside one.
Not allowed to park my truck long enough to get a cup of coffee. Every Buc-ess is prominently posted “No Trucks”.
They don’t want my year-round business. Or the sale of a thousand dollars of fuel on each fill up?
Have to wonder if the founder’s wife cheated with a truck driver at one time?
orrrrr, maybe the footprint of your truck takes up the space for the small profit fuel brings. Even at 150 gallon fill ups, the profit is less than that of a BUC-EES branded shirt. Their literal business model is to to maximize sales inside the store. Fuel has an average of 3-7 cent profit margin. Trucker’s fuel sales are pennies for them to miss out on when they’re capturing the foot traffic they are with smaller vehicles loading up on merch and food sales. But yeah, they have a vendetta on truckers smh…
Have you seen the traffic at any Buc-ees? To dangerous to add tractor trailers to the mix. They don’t want it to turn into a truck stop. There is parking nearby each one though.
Albuquerque, New Mexico!
Where the Big “I” (I-40 & I-25) cross and New Mexico is a popular movie state with movie stars living in Santa Fe! Breaking Bad was filmed here and the New Mexico Film Office has many future productions coming up.
The next Bucee’s should be in Escondido, California, Between the cities of San Diego and Oceanside.
ILLINOIS!!!!
Off 90 between Rockford and Chicago
ILLINOIS is broke and would be a terrible investment for Buc-ees! The state is run by Demos that love to feed and caere for thosands of illegals. Not a reccomended place to start a new business!
Your comment makes you sound like a fun person to be around. (sarcasm)
LAS VEGAS, NV
RIGHT OFF OF I 15 LOTS OF TRAFFIC
Seymour, Indiana. The center point between Louisville, KY & Indianapolis, IN. Seymour is growing so fast & we would LOVE a Buc-ees!
We need a Buc cees between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne off of I-69. If they could purchase farm land right off of the Fairmount exit, it would be a fabulous location. People could also pop over to Fairmount to visit James Dean’s hometown and pay respects at his grave! Prime Location!!
New Mexico I40 West of Albuquerque
RUSSELLVILLEARKANSAS
would love to see a location in palm beach county, fl. I-95 location would be excellent if you can find the land. BJ’S wholesale club looked for only 6 months and now has a great location with gas in west palm right off I-95. palm beach county looking for the tax $$$$. lots of money here and lots of tourist $$$.
New Mexico! Albuquerque has the intersection of I25 and I40, both major highways. C’mon over!
Nebraska I-80 please!!!!!!!!
Buford, Georgia
I think you Gas station franchise would make an
absolute monster killing in Hoffman Estates, IL.
It is between Chicago and Elgin and right next to
Barrington (Big Cash). There are all kinds of shopping
malls and traffic around there and a perfect location
would be I-90 and Route 59!!!
As much as I agree, I don’t think Hoffman Estates has the space at the price point they would want. They would probably have to go further down 90 past Elgin.
Gilbert, Arizona – It is the fastest growing city in Arizona and we need a really good place like Buc-ee’s to spend our money!
Sheryl Roberts
Southeast Michigan. Between Detroit and Port Huron. There are 2 International bridges to Canada and 3 major interstates (75,94,69) and, TONS of traffic.
They have good food AND NO PLACE TO SIT DOWN AND ENJOY IT !! You have to stand up and eat or go back to you car to eat…the reason I stopped there is to EAT out of the car…. Wake up people ….at the least, put some covered tables outside on your “20 acres” , better would be inside sitting —OUT OF THE CAR ! Been there twice, first and last!
Ditto! I heard so much good about them, looked forward to stopping there, did so, and then immediately hated the place for having nowhere to sit down. And the food packaging wasn’t even such that one could eat while driving. So I’ll never stop at one again. I really wanted to like the place, so I hate it that I hate it. (If that makes sense.)
Arizona wants at least one location.
Las Vegas, NV
Also have one coming in Kansas City, KS in the near future as well.
i would like to see a Buc-ee’s in between New jersey and Pennsylvania.
Clearwater, MN
St. George, Utah. Right on I-15, 120 miles north of Las Vegas and 300 miles south of Salt Lake City. Metro St. George is now approaching 200,000 people, and is the gateway to Zion National Park.
I agree with Mr. Fulton. Heavy traffic including I-70 from the East heading through Utah , St. George to Las Vegas and California destinations.
Tampa Bay, Florida
Exactly. Tampa Bay area. Excellent area I 75 around 54 area
Henrietta, OK — intersection of highway 75 and I-40. Hey 75 goes by north to Tulsa, and south, becoming the Indian Turnpike. I-40 goes east —> Ft. Smith, AR —> Little Rock, AR.
Since the Indian Turnpike is the absolute worst paved road in North America this area is dying fast.
Very far from being worst paved road.
I agree, Scott ! I am 75yo, do they hire “Old Folks” ? I would love to work there!
bucees should open a store in north augusta sc. it is perfect off of I-20 at exit 5 land is available and it is in between augusta ga and columbia sc.
