Hundreds of workers in Tracy are preparing for job losses after a food supplier for a popular meal kit delivery service announced plans to permanently close one of its production facilities amid broader financial troubles.
FreshRealm announces Tracy layoffs
FreshRealm, a food manufacturing company that produces ready-made meals and meal kits for national brands, will lay off 228 employees at its Tracy, California, facility, according to a WARN notice filed with the state. The layoffs are tied to the permanent closure of the company’s plant located at 2900 N. MacArthur Drive, with separations expected to begin June 27.
The company’s Tracy site has been part of FreshRealm’s nationwide network of fresh food production facilities serving grocery retailers and meal-kit companies. FreshRealm has described itself as a “Food-as-a-Service” company specializing in fresh prepared meals and fulfillment operations.
Bankruptcy and operational struggles
The layoffs come shortly after FreshRealm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey. Company officials said the filing followed major operational disruptions and financial strain connected to ingredient supply issues and product recalls in 2025.
FreshRealm also confirmed it reached an agreement related to its Blue Apron operations as part of its restructuring efforts. Reports indicate the company is shutting down or reducing operations at several facilities across the country while evaluating strategic alternatives for the business.
