Beloved wholesale chain plans dozens of new warehouse openings during nationwide expansion

For many shoppers, the arrival of a new Costco means shorter drives, easier access to bulk savings, and another destination for the retailer’s famously popular food court. Now, the warehouse giant is preparing to bring new locations to communities across the country as part of an ambitious growth strategy.

Costco continues aggressive expansion

Costco is moving forward with plans to open dozens of new warehouses as demand for the membership-based retailer remains strong.

The company is expected to open 28 new warehouses in fiscal 2026, part of a broader strategy that could see approximately 30 new locations added annually over the next decade. Costco executives previously indicated the retailer aims to maintain a steady pace of expansion while investing billions of dollars in new stores, infrastructure, and supply chain improvements.

The growth comes as Costco continues to attract shoppers looking for bulk discounts on groceries, household essentials, electronics, and other products.

New stores planned across multiple states

Several new warehouses are already scheduled to open in the coming months.

According to Costco’s website, upcoming locations include Albany, New York; Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Otsego, Minnesota; Mansfield and Celina, Texas; Stone Mountain, Georgia; and Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Recent openings have also occurred in Pensacola, Florida, Syracuse, Utah, and Visalia, California.

One of the most anticipated projects is a new 163,000-square-foot warehouse (around 16,000 square feet bigger than a typical Costco warehouse)  in Guilderland, New York, scheduled to open in August. Additional stores are planned in communities experiencing rapid population growth and increasing retail demand.

Retail giant sees room for growth

Costco currently operates more than 900 warehouses worldwide and remains one of the fastest-growing major retailers in the United States. Company leaders have signaled that expansion will remain a key priority as they look to reach more customers.

For shoppers in areas slated to receive new locations, the expansion means another opportunity to access Costco’s warehouses, gas stations, pharmacies, and other member-focused services closer to home.
