Cracker Barrel has had a tough year, no doubt.
Between the failed rebrand…
And ongoing store closures as the restaurant keeps shrinking its store network…
Cracker Barrel fans and staff sure could use some good news.
Instead, more closures:

More specifically, Cracker Barrel just closed 14 locations operating under its Maple Street Biscuit Company brand.
Cracker Barrel bought Maple Street Biscuit Company in 2019 and, previous to the closures, operated 68 Maple Street locations throughout the American Southeast.
The 14 locations closed break down like this:
- 7 in Texas
- 2 in South Carolina
- 2 in Florida
- 1 in Ohio
- 1 in Tennessee
- 1 in Kentucky
This is, of course, rough news for the staff at these restaurants and for thousands of loyal customers.
It also reflects the difficulties the food industry in general (and Cracker Barrel in particular) has had as Americans shift away from chain restaurants, as food inflation continues to compress margins, and as labor shortages increase complexity.
Unfortunately, there’s good reason to believe that more trouble is on the way, as the American economy keeps shedding jobs and demand for delicious restaurant food keeps falling.
