By contrast, the typical Buc-ee’s is nearly 50,000 square feet.
Buc-ee’s is designed to have something for everyone.
So it’s no surprise that they run…huge.

Like I mentioned, the typical Buc-ee’s is nearly 50,000 square feet.
But the largest Buc-ee’s? It’s in a different class altogether – more than 75,000 square feet – or about 50% bigger.
It has 120 gas pumps.
Tesla superchargers.
The works.
And it’s in Luling, Texas.

Well, Luling was where the first Buc-ee’s opened, so nostalgia would be a good enough reason all on its own.
Luling is also just off I-10 and almost exactly in the center of a triangle whose three points are Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.
In other words – it gets a ton of highway traffic, which the Buc-ee’s is perfectly placed to capture.
It also fits right in with Buc-ee’s broader location strategy.

Because Buc-ee’s is meant to be the stop-off of choice on your roadtrip, management has developed a very clear strategy for picking where to place its locations.
It goes something like this:
– Right off a highway that gets lots of traffic
– In a place with cheap land
– Ideally not too far from an urban center (usually an exurb – like Luling)
– And usually with a friendly local government that’s happy to offer them tax incentives to capture their business

It’s also the biggest convenience store in the whole world.
And no wonder, right?

Buc-ee’s keeps breaking its own world records.
Previous to last year, the Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels was the largest convenience store in the world.
Then the even larger Buc-ee’s in Sevierville, Tennessee opened in Summer 2023 (74,707 square feet).
The Buc-ee’s in Johnstown, Colorado opened earlier this year and matched Sevierville in size.
And then Luling’s remodel was completed in June, weighing in at a whopping 75,593 square feet!

Listen, if I told you – hey, you can go to a normal convenience store, or drive a few minutes out of your way to go to a Buc-ee’s…you might go to the Buc-ee’s, right?
Now what if I changed it to normal convenience store vs world record holder?
You’d probably be willing to go a few more minutes out of your way.
There’s just a “coolness” factor to it.
