Stocking your freezer with nutrition-packed staples can make healthy eating easier and more affordable — especially at Costco, where buying in bulk means less frequent grocery trips and better value per serving.
As a Costco-loving Registered Dietitian, I’m sharing three of my favorite frozen foods from Costco that I always have on hand.
1. Trident Salmon Burgers
If you’re like me, you know fish is good for you and would love to eat it more often, but just don’t want to go through the hassle of buying raw fish fillets and figuring out how to make them taste great. Enter salmon burgers!
Made from wild-caught Alaskan salmon with minimal additives, each patty delivers 170 calories, 9 grams of fat (including 1.5 grams of saturated fat), 2 grams of carbohydrates, and 20 grams of protein. The blend of herbs and spices makes the salmon super palatable – even my young kids eat these!
These salmon burgers are also rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fats linked to improved cardiovascular health, and are rich in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. They’re also suitable for low-carb diets, and all with the convenience of cooking straight from the freezer to your oven, skillet, or air fryer.
2. Sheet pan vegetables
Frozen mixed sheet pan vegetables are a dietitian-approved way to boost vegetable intake without prep work – and I always have a bag in my freezer. Costco carries different brands and varieties of sheet pan veggies depending on their current stock, but they typically include a variety of nutrient-dense veggies like broccoli, bell peppers, onions, and Brussels sprouts.
Because they’re frozen at peak freshness, they retain vitamins, minerals, and fiber — key for digestion and satiety — with no added preservatives. They’re pre-seasoned and are already tossed in oil, so all you have to do is spread them on a pan and roast them until they’re golden brown. I use them as a side or as an addition to grain bowls.
3. Frozen organic mangoes
Frozen organic mango chunks are another smart Costco staple that is always in my freezer. Mangoes are high in vitamin C and a decent source of fiber, and freezing them soon after harvest locks in nutrients that can diminish in fresh fruit over time.
Frozen mangoes are great in smoothies, and they’re also great eaten alone as a snack. I thaw a mug full of them and eat them with a fork, and my kids are obsessed with eating them that way, too! (They’ve even had them frozen as mini “popsicles”.)
Having fruit on hand regardless of the growing season, and without worrying about it going bad, is one of the handiest ways to help you eat more of it.
