“Just got my son a 12 count grilled nuggets with a fruit cup for the side. Total was $19 and change. NINETEEN DOLLARS. For a fast food combo. It’s been fun, CFA. I’m done.”
That post on r/ChickFilA landed with a thud – partly because of the sticker shock, and partly because of who was saying it. This wasn’t a first-time visitor with unrealistic expectations. It was a self-described fan, someone who’d been making the Chick-fil-A trip for years, announcing that the price had finally crossed a line.

It’s worth noting that Chick-fil-A continues to thrive. The chain opened hundreds of new locations in 2025 and consistently ranks near the top of customer satisfaction surveys. But even among its loyalists, a quiet conversation has been building about whether the value equation still makes sense.
When the premium stops feeling premium
Chick-fil-A has always cost more than a trip to McDonald’s or Burger King, and for most of its history, customers have accepted that trade-off willingly. The chicken was better. The service was famously warm. The experience justified the price. What some customers are saying now is that the gap between what Chick-fil-A charges and what it delivers has begun to close in the wrong direction.
A 12-piece nuggets combo now averages $15.69 in 2026, according to price-tracking site Pricelisto. The eight-piece nuggets jumped nearly 96% between 2019 and mid-2024. Families feel it most. “Try going with your kids who love it,” one customer wrote on Reddit. “Six of us and we are lucky to get out under $70.”
Portions have drawn scrutiny too. “I had a spicy chicken sandwich yesterday, and noticed that the chicken was less than ยฝ inch thick,” one customer posted on r/shrinkflation, comparing it to the same sandwich purchased a few months prior. Not everyone has noticed a change, but the complaint has come up often enough to fuel ongoing discussion in Chick-fil-A communities.
What loyal customers are really saying
The customers raising these concerns aren’t, for the most part, swearing off Chick-fil-A forever. They’re expressing the particular frustration of someone who genuinely likes a brand and doesn’t want to feel like it’s taking their loyalty for granted. The $19 nugget receipt wasn’t posted in anger – it was posted in disbelief, by someone who still cared enough to be disappointed.
Chick-fil-A has earned an enormous amount of goodwill over the years. The question some customers are starting to ask – quietly, for now – is how much of that goodwill the current pricing strategy is spending down.
