Kansas is finally getting its first real taste of Buc-ee’s, and the location is designed for crowds.
The first Kansas Buc-ee’s is planned for Kansas City, Kansas, near Kansas Speedway, at 601 Village West Parkway. Buc-ee’s has listed Kansas City, Kansas, among its estimated 2027 openings, while local officials previously approved a development agreement for the project. Missouri got the region’s first Buc-ee’s back in December 2023 with the Springfield store, and Kansas drivers have been waiting for their own ever since.
This will not be a small roadside stop.
The Kansas City project is expected to be roughly 74,000 square feet, with 120 gas pumps and 12 electric vehicle charging stations. KCUR reported that the development was approved as a $94.8 million project on 20 acres near the speedway.
That location is the big story.

The future Buc-ee’s would sit near Kansas Speedway, Hollywood Casino, Interstate 70, and Interstate 435, putting it in front of sports fans, casino visitors, commuters, road-trippers, and families crossing the Kansas City metro. Buc-ee’s expects the location to draw about 4 million visitors annually, with roughly 70% coming from out of state.
There is already visible work tied to the project. KCTV reported that I-70 ramps at North 110th Street were set to temporarily close in May for safety and overpass improvements before Buc-ee’s opens, including ramp widening and new traffic signals.
For Kansas drivers, the draw is familiar: brisket sandwiches, Beaver Nuggets, fudge, jerky, massive bathrooms, road-trip snacks, and aisles of Buc-ee’s merch.
But for Kansas City, the arrival is bigger than snacks.
Local officials have described the project as a major jobs and development win. KCUR reported that officials discussed 200 jobs and infrastructure incentives tied to water lines, interchange work, electrical relocation, and road changes on Village West Parkway.
The chain’s arrival also gives the Kansas side of the metro a major destination stop, not just another convenience store. Buc-ee’s fans will likely show up out of curiosity. The bigger test is whether it becomes a regular stop for drivers who already have plenty of options along I-70.
For now, the Kansas Buc-ee’s map is simple: Kansas City, Kansas is the first, 2027 is the target, and the beaver is heading for the speedway.
