A major food company is continuing a large-scale workforce reduction at a historic California facility, with another round of employees losing their jobs earlier this month. The latest cuts came as the company moves forward with plans to close the longtime plant and consolidate its operations.
Another round of layoffs scheduled
Blue Diamond Growers eliminated 31 jobs at its Sacramento, California, facility on September 4, 2026, according to a California WARN filing. The notice was filed July 2 and lists the action as a permanent closure affecting workers at the company’s facility at 1802 C Street.
The Sacramento-based almond cooperative has already carried out multiple rounds of layoffs connected to the plant closure. WARN records show cuts affecting 93 workers on August 28, 56 workers on August 21, and 40 workers on August 7. Additional smaller rounds took place earlier in the year.
Historic plant is being closed
Blue Diamond announced the Sacramento plant closure in June 2025, saying that operating the historic facility had become too costly and inefficient. The company planned to consolidate manufacturing at its existing facilities in Turlock and Salida, California, as part of an effort to streamline its operations.
The plant closure represents a significant change for the Sacramento-based company, which has long been closely tied to the region’s almond industry.
Local workforce officials have already been assisting employees affected by the layoffs. The Sacramento Employment and Training Agency said approximately 130 Blue Diamond workers attended a June job and resource fair designed to connect affected employees with new employment opportunities.
The latest 31-worker reduction added to the hundreds of jobs affected by Blue Diamond’s ongoing Sacramento restructuring.
