Florida pizza fans could see fewer Papa John’s locations as the company moves forward with a plan to close hundreds of underperforming restaurants across North America.
The pizza chain announced earlier this year that it expects to close about 300 underperforming restaurants by the end of 2027, with roughly 200 of those closures expected during 2026. While Papa John’s has not released a complete official list of affected locations, financial filings and industry reports show that Florida is among the states already impacted by the first wave of closures.
Several Florida locations have already closed
According to reports analyzing the company’s first-quarter closures, Florida has already lost multiple Papa John’s restaurants, including locations in Atlantic Beach, Cocoa, Holly Hill, Jensen Beach, and LaBelle. The closures are part of a broader effort to eliminate older, lower-performing restaurants while strengthening the remaining store network.
What it could mean for customers
For customers, the closures could mean longer drives to the nearest Papa John’s restaurant or reduced delivery coverage in some neighborhoods. In areas where a nearby location remains open, the company expects much of the business to shift there rather than disappear entirely.
Papa John’s executives say many of the restaurants targeted for closure are more than 10 years old, generate less than $600,000 in annual sales, and have limited opportunities for long-term profitability. Company leaders believe consolidating operations will improve franchise health and increase sales at surviving locations.
Florida footprint remains significant
Despite the closures, Papa John’s continues to operate dozens of restaurants across Florida, and the company has emphasized that the strategy is intended to strengthen—not abandon—its presence in key markets. Customers in larger metropolitan areas are unlikely to notice major changes, but residents in smaller communities may find fewer convenient options if additional closures occur over the next year.
