Parents across the country are being urged to check their pantries after a nationwide recall of infant formula was issued following a multistate botulism outbreak that hospitalized three infants.
Nara Organics has voluntarily recalled all lots of its Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula after federal health officials linked the product to three confirmed or suspected cases of infant botulism in babies from California, Pennsylvania, and Washington. The illnesses occurred between April and May 2026, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Three infants hospitalized
The affected infants, ranging from 2 to 5 months old, were hospitalized after developing symptoms consistent with infant botulism, a rare but potentially life-threatening illness caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum. Health officials reported that all three infants consumed Nara Organics formula before becoming ill.
While no deaths have been reported and all three infants survived, the severity of the illnesses prompted the FDA to recommend a nationwide recall. Testing of leftover formula collected during the investigation remains ongoing. Federal officials have not yet confirmed whether the bacteria is present in the product itself.
Formula sold nationwide
The recalled formula was sold throughout the United States through Target stores, Target.com, and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026. The recall includes all lots of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula sold in both 400-gram and 700-gram containers.
Parents and caregivers are being advised to stop using the product immediately and contact a healthcare provider if an infant develops symptoms such as constipation, poor feeding, muscle weakness, a weak cry, drooping eyelids, or breathing difficulties. The FDA says consumers should not use any recalled formula while the investigation continues.
Nara Organics is offering refunds to affected customers, and additional information is available through the company’s recall notice and the FDA.
