Five Guys has closed another longtime restaurant, marking the latest in a series of location reductions for the popular burger chain as it continues to reshape its footprint across the U.S.
The latest closure affects a restaurant that had served customers for nearly 16 years, adding to a growing list of Five Guys locations that have shuttered in recent months.
Oak Park Mall location closes after nearly 16 years
The Five Guys restaurant at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas, served its final customers on July 15 after nearly 16 years in business. Located at 11331 W. 95th St., the restaurant had been a fixture at the shopping center since 2009. Mall officials confirmed the closure was tied to the expiration of the restaurant’s lease rather than a sudden shutdown.
Signs posted outside the restaurant thanked customers for their years of support and directed them to nearby Five Guys locations that remain open in the Kansas City area. Oak Park Mall also announced that a new restaurant tenant has already been secured and will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Part of a broader pattern
The Kansas closure comes as Five Guys has quietly closed or announced plans to close multiple restaurants across the country during 2026. Industry reports indicate that at least 14 locations have shuttered or are scheduled to close this year, with restaurants affected in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington and now Kansas.
Several of the California closures were linked to financial challenges, while other restaurants have closed following lease expirations or due to individual store performance.
Chain continues to expand overall
Despite the recent closures, Five Guys has not announced a companywide restructuring or bankruptcy. The Virginia-based chain continues to operate more than 1,500 U.S. locations and has continued opening new restaurants in several markets this year.
Company filings and franchise data indicate that while underperforming locations are being trimmed, the brand is still pursuing long-term growth through new restaurant development.
