A familiar fast-food restaurant in Washington is preparing to close its doors this fall, putting two dozen local employees out of work. The closure is part of a much larger effort by the chain to reduce its restaurant footprint across the country.
Everett restaurant will close in October
Jack in the Box will permanently close its restaurant at 1505 S.E. Everett Mall Way in Everett on October 10, 2026, according to a Washington Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing. Employees received written notice of the closure on August 11.
The closure will affect all 24 employees at the restaurant. Those affected reportedly include 20 team members, three team leaders, and one restaurant manager.
The location is currently still listed on Jack in the Box’s official website, but it will be removed from the company’s lineup following the October closure.
Closure is part of a nationwide shakeup
The Everett shutdown isn’t an isolated decision.
Jack in the Box has been working through a major restructuring plan that calls for closing between 150 and 200 underperforming restaurants by the end of 2026. The company has been trying to reduce costs, improve its financial position, and focus on stronger-performing locations.
The chain has faced declining customer traffic along with higher operating costs, including increased beef prices. Those pressures have contributed to the company’s decision to shrink its restaurant base.
Other Washington locations remain open
The closure does not mean Jack in the Box is leaving Everett or Washington entirely.
The company’s website currently lists several other Everett restaurants, including locations on Evergreen Way, Everett Avenue, and 132nd Street Southeast.ย
For the 24 employees losing their jobs, the closure represents another local impact from a nationwide restaurant industry increasingly focused on cutting underperforming locations and controlling costs.
