
Arizona diners have one less taco stop after a fast-growing restaurant chain quietly closed another location. The latest shutdown comes as several national brands rethink expansion plans and trim underperforming stores.
Torchy’s Tacos closes Queen Creek restaurant
Torchy’s Tacos permanently closed its Queen Creek Marketplace location on February 3rd, ending a roughly three-year run in the East Valley. The restaurant had been one of the chain’s Arizona outposts since the company entered the state in 2022.
The closure follows another Arizona cutback in 2025, when Torchy’s shuttered its north Phoenix restaurant during an earlier round of closures. That means the company has now closed two Arizona locations in less than a year – which is 40% of the original locations in the state.
How many Arizona locations remain?
Despite the recent pullback, Torchy’s still has three Arizona restaurants remaining. According to local reports, the chain continues to operate Valley locations in Phoenix, Gilbert, and Surprise.
That means Arizona remains part of the brand’s long-term footprint, even as it scales back some stores.
Part of a wider seven-store closure plan
The Queen Creek closure was part of a broader wave of shutdowns across the U.S. Torchy’s also closed restaurants in Ohio, Florida, Georgia, and Texas as the company reviewed performance and future growth plans.
Company representatives said certain stores no longer aligned with Torchy’s long-term strategy. The chain said it wants to focus more heavily on stronger-performing markets and improve the guest experience.
Why chains are trimming locations
Restaurant operators nationwide continue facing higher labor costs, rising food prices, and more cautious consumer spending. Instead of chasing rapid expansion, many chains are choosing to strengthen profitable markets first.
