A historic Red Lobster location in Tallahassee, Florida, prepared to serve its final customers after 56 years in operation, marking the end of the seafood chain’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. The longtime location on North Monroe Street was scheduled to close on May 24, 2026, according to company statements and local reports.
The restaurant first opened in October 1970 and became a staple in the Tallahassee community for generations of diners. Customers frequently celebrated birthdays, prom dinners, anniversaries, and family gatherings at the location, helping cement its reputation as a local landmark.
Closure follows bankruptcy restructuring
The closure comes nearly two years after Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2024. During the restructuring process, the company shuttered approximately 130 restaurants nationwide, including 17 Florida locations, as it attempted to reduce debt and cut operating costs.
Under new CEO Damola Adamolekun, the chain has worked to stabilize operations through menu changes, marketing campaigns, and restaurant evaluations. Company officials said the Tallahassee closure reflects “individual business circumstances” specific to the location rather than a broader shutdown of the brand.
