Intro

I don’t know about you, but that 3 p.m. soda? It just hits every time.
Fizzy, sweet, crisp (and ice cold, of course)…
Tons of people feel the same way. According to one stat, 63% of Americans drink a sugar-sweetened beverage one or more times every day! (We do love our junk food).
But here’s the real question…

Intro (continued)

We drink a lot of soda… but which soda is THE favorite?
The folks at YouGov just released brand-new polling results from Q1 2025 — and the results were very surprising.
They asked two simple questions:
- Have you heard of this soda?
- If yes, do you have a positive opinion of it?
I figured it would be Coke, or maybe Pepsi, right? Or Dr Pepper at the very least.
Nope. None of them took the top spot. In fact, Coke wasn’t even in the top three!
Here’s the full ranking of the top ten sodas by positive opinion – did your favorite make the list?
Let’s start with #10:

#10: A&W Cream Soda

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 91%
Percent of Americans who like it: 62%
My take: Cream soda is definitely one of those “love it or leave it” flavors — but apparently the people who love it really love it. It’s smooth, vanilla-y, and almost buttery sweet. A&W’s cream soda is not my favorite, but I respect it. I have to be honest though, I’m impressed it cracked the top ten given how polarizing cream sodas can be!

#9: Sunkist

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 94%
Percent of Americans who like it: 63%
My take: Sunkist just screams summer. It’s more intense than something like Fanta, and for some people, that’s exactly the point. I personally think it’s a little too sweet to drink regularly, but when you’re floating in a pool or grilling burgers? Yeah, Sunkist hits the spot. Definitely deserves a place here.

#8: Fanta

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 64%
My take: I’ll always have a soft spot for Fanta. I mostly drank it as a teenager, grabbing one from a vending machine whenever that sugar craving hit. What I love about Fanta is that it’s playful and doesn’t take itself too seriously — like, you know you’re drinking pure sugar and artificial fruit, and you’re happy about it.

#7: Coca-Cola

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 100%
Percent of Americans who like it: 65%
My take: It’s honestly wild that Coca-Cola — Coca-Cola — is sitting all the way down at #7. Everybody and their grandma has heard of Coke, but apparently, not everyone absolutely loves it. Maybe it’s because Coke’s kind of the default soda? It’s so familiar, we’ve stopped appreciating it. Personally, if I’m reaching for a soda, it’s Diet Coke or nothing.

#6: Pepsi

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 66%
My take: Ah, the eternal rival! Pepsi is sweeter than Coke — and depending who you ask, that’s either a very good thing or way too much. Personally, I find Pepsi a bit syrupy for everyday drinking, but man, it absolutely nails the cherry and vanilla versions.

#5: Canada Dry

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 95%
Percent of Americans who like it: 66%
My take: Canada Dry isn’t just a drink, it’s medicine — at least that’s what every mom I know swore growing up. Sick? Ginger ale. Stomachache? Ginger ale. Long flight? Ginger ale. I don’t know why, but ginger ale just tastes 10x better when you’re 30,000 feet in the air. Canada Dry nailed that crisp, real ginger flavor that’s just so refreshing.

#4: 7UP

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 96%
Percent of Americans who like it: 66%
My take: 7UP is crisp and doesn’t leave that sticky aftertaste like a lot of sodas do. I think people appreciate that it’s not trying to punch you in the face with sweetness. Just fresh lemon-lime goodness, plain and simple.

#3: A&W Root Beer

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 94%
Percent of Americans who like it: 66%
My take: I think we can all agree that A&W has the best root beer. And in a frosted mug? Game over. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you’ve got the ultimate summer treat. If you’ve never had a root beer float this way… well, you’re missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures.

#2: Dr Pepper

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 97%
Percent of Americans who like it: 70%
My take:Dr Pepper is in a category of its own. It’s not cola, not cherry — it’s this bold, mysterious blend of 23 flavors that just… works. I totally get why it ranked so high. It’s way more interesting than most mainstream sodas, and honestly, it keeps you coming back for more.

#1: Sprite

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 74%
My take: And your winner is… Sprite! Honestly, this makes so much sense. Sprite is clean, sweet, super refreshing, and basically impossible to hate. Plus, Sprite mixes perfectly with literally anything — punches, cocktails, you name it.
