Texas is only weeks away from opening another enormous Buc-ee’s. The chain’s home state already has more Buc-ee’s locations than every other state combined, and San Marcos will be the next city added to that list.
The new travel center will open at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
It is located at 3245 N. Interstate 35 near Yarrington Road, placing it along the heavily traveled corridor between Austin and San Antonio.
Buc-ee’s broke ground on the project January 29, 2025. The store was initially associated with earlier completion targets, but the company has now announced a firm August grand-opening date.
It will be one of the largest Buc-ee’s stores
The San Marcos travel center will encompass 74,707 square feet and include 128 fueling positions.
That makes it only 886 square feet smaller than the record-holding Buc-ee’s in Luling, which spans 75,593 square feet.
The project carries an estimated construction cost of approximately $47 million. Buc-ee’s projected that the location would create between 200 and 225 full-time jobs, while its agreement with San Marcos requires the company to maintain at least 175.
Customers can expect the usual Buc-ee’s assortment, including barbecue, kolaches, jerky, fudge, Beaver Nuggets, drinks, bakery items and beaver-branded merchandise.
Why San Marcos makes sense
The new store sits between two of Texas’ fastest-growing metropolitan areas.
It can draw Austin and San Antonio travelers, Texas State University students and families, outlet-mall shoppers, Hill Country visitors and commuters moving through the San Marcos, Kyle and Buda area.
The location is unusually close to the existing Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels, but the congestion and population growth along I-35 give the company access to an enormous number of potential customers.
San Marcos approved an incentive agreement providing Buc-ee’s with a partial refund of sales taxes generated by the store over 15 years. The company also agreed to donate $100,000 to a city community fund.
Another Texas Buc-ee’s is already behind it
Once San Marcos opens, the next Texas project on Buc-ee’s schedule will be Boerne in 2027.
That location will be smaller than the company’s newest travel centers. Revised plans cap the Boerne store at 54,000 square feet and 100 fueling positions, with at least 26 electric-vehicle chargers and no car wash.
San Marcos comes first, however. With a confirmed opening date, a nearly completed building and hiring underway, the countdown to Texas’ newest Buc-ee’s is officially down to days rather than months.
