Popeyes has spent much of 2026 dealing with franchisee closures and bankruptcy fallout, but a new Reddit thread is focused on a more everyday concern: what customers are paying at the counter.
In a September 29 Reddit post with more than 100 upvotes, a customer who said they once ate at Popeyes several times a week complained that prices at their location had climbed while a favorite Big Box deal disappeared. “You have finally crossed that line,” the poster wrote, adding that they no longer felt the value was there.

The complaint is really about value
Several commenters echoed the frustration, especially around chicken tender meals and promotions that have changed. Others pushed back on the idea that one menu or one franchise represents Popeyes nationwide. One commenter noted that restaurant deals can differ by market and suggested checking the app, where local offers may change the calculation.
That distinction matters because the original post described one customer’s local prices and experience. Popeyes restaurants are heavily franchised, and menu pricing, promotions and hours can vary. A reported increase at one restaurant should not be read as evidence of a uniform nationwide price hike.
Some fans still think the food earns its price
Reddit is hardly united against the chain. In another recent discussion, fans praised the Popeyes chicken sandwich, with one commenter saying they had paid considerably more for crispy chicken sandwiches at sit-down restaurants and still felt Popeyes delivered better value. Another recent deal discussion included a customer who said a Popeyes meal promotion fed a family of four for less than $30.
There is also evidence Popeyes is under real pressure. Parent company Restaurant Brands International reported that Popeyes U.S. comparable sales fell 5.2% in the second quarter of 2026. That figure does not prove pricing caused the decline, but it does show the chain is navigating a softer sales environment while customers are scrutinizing what they spend.
Deals may matter more than ever
Fast-food customers have become increasingly trained to look for app offers, bundles and limited-time promotions instead of paying full menu price. That can make the difference between a meal feeling reasonable and feeling like a splurge.
The Reddit argument ultimately comes down to that gap. Some customers still see Popeyes as a strong value when they use a deal or order a favorite sandwich. Others are looking at the regular menu price and deciding they can walk away. For a chain trying to rebuild momentum, that perception may be just as important as the number on the menu board.
