Intro

If you’ve been feeling like every restaurant has gotten rid of a bunch of your favorite dishes…
You’re not alone.
I’ve been noticing the same thing – and so have tons of other people.
And here’s the thing…

Intro (continued)

I get that a restaurant like IHOP – which has been around since 1958 – has to update its menu from time to time.
That just makes sense.
But man, some of these lost dishes really hurt.
Starting with this first one, which was probably my favorite…

#1: Cheesecake stuffed French toast

French toast is great all on its own.
Stuff it, it gets even better.
Stuff it with cheesecake? Whew, we’re in for a great day.
This was a go-to meal for me at IHOP.
Unfortunately, it was removed from the menu in 2017, then brought back briefly in 2021 before disappearing for good.

#2: Harvest grain ‘n nut pancakes

This hearty stack of pancakes wasn’t most folks’ favorite, and I never really understood why.
I mean, they had some good crunch from the almonds and walnuts, and let’s be honest – pancakes are mostly there as a vehicle for the syrup.
I quite liked them.
Anyway, they were removed in 2022.

#3: Banana Nutella crepes

When it comes to crepes, in my opinion the best flavors are simple – either lemon and sugar, or Nutella.
It’s just such a straightforward, delicious dish – and when you add bananas (as IHOP did), a Nutella crepe is even better.
Sadly, they disappeared a couple years ago.
And while the cinnamon bun crepe is an ok consolation prize – it’s just not the same!

#4: Red velvet pancakes

I’m not sure these need any introduction?
Imagine red pancakes with a sweet cream cheese drizzle.
This one was introduced as a limited-time option, and it came back to the menu several times before permanently disappearing in 2020.
Bring them back!

#5: Cornbread pancakes

This was a cool concept – instead of cornbread as, you know, cornbread – what if you turned them into pancakes?
(Think kind of like Johnny cakes.)
And in addition to lots of butter, you can also sweeten and moisten them with syrup.
These were introduced in 2006 and disappeared well over a decade ago. Sad!

#6: Swedish crepes

If you love your crepes with a side of lingonberry jam – and why wouldn’t you – then you probably loved IHOP’s Swedish crepes, which were sadly discontinued a few years back.
They will be missed!

#7: Cupcake pancakes

These really should have just been called “confetti cake pancakes” – because they looked exactly like that.
The pancake batter had rainbow sprinkles throughout it, with a cream cheese icing, plus whipped cream, and more rainbow sprinkles as a final topping.
Sadly, they disappeared sometime in 2024, and there’s no sign that they’re coming back any time soon.

#8: Dark chocolate peppermint pancakes

These are extremely self-explanatory – dark chocolate, white chocolate chips, whipped cream, crushed peppermint.
They were on the winter menu for 2016 and 2017 but have never returned.
Which is weird! Because they’re about as seasonal as you get.

#9: Country omelette

I have no idea why they discontinued this one, because it’s just so classically IHOP.
Ham, onions, cheddar, hash browns, and topped with sour cream.
It’s like everything (aside from pancakes) that you love about breakfast all in one place!

#10: Chicken cobb salad

Ok, I get it – everyone’s got a cobb salad, and it’s probably not why anyone goes to IHOP.
That said – everyone has it for a reason: Because it’s good!
At IHOP you had the choice between grilled or fried chicken, then bacon, blue cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce with a buttermilk ranch dressing.
So it’s definitely disappointing that it’s all gone from IHOP’s menu.

Summary

So there you have it – 10 great dishes that used to be at IHOP but have unfortunately gone the way of the dinosaur.
And some of them really hurt!
I loved the cheesecake stuffed French toast so much…
But that of course highlights an important question:
