Intro

Sonic has a dizzying array of appetizing items of its menu, and it’s got nostalgia for a bygone era going for it.
But when we talk about the taste of its burgers, there’s a lot of room for debate.
Here are six fast food restaurants that have strong cases for having better burgers than Sonic. Some even have a similar nostalgia angle.
Let’s see ’em!

Johnny Rockets

Why better than Sonic? Johnny Rockets has that classic 1950’s diner look and feel and sure enough serves burgers, fries, and milkshakes.
Its burgers are certified Angus beef and fresh-never-frozen. And you can order concoctions like the Smoke House Double, with two patties, bacon, cheddar, and bbq ranch…topped with onion rings!

Wendy’s

Why better than Sonic? Wendy’s is underrated. Its square patties are made fresh and are oh-so-juicy! Those burgers compare reasonably well with burger chains that charge a lot more (e.g. Five Guys).

Big Boy

Why better than Sonic? Talk about nostalgia! Whether it’s Bob’s or Frisch’s or Elby’s, if I’m not getting the spaghetti with meat sauce and a slice of strawberry pie, I’m eyeing one of the classic burgers like the “Best Cheeseburger on the Planet.” Or the Big Boy, which was the inspiration for the Big Mac!

Whataburger

Why better than Sonic? Whataburger wins on name alone, no? You see the orange and white “W” and you just have to stop for a burger and some fries or onion rings. I wouldn’t say Whataburger is the best burger (folks in Texas may disagree), but it’s better than Sonic’s.

McDonald’s

Why better than Sonic? McDonald’s is controversial to some, but when you crave a Big Mac (or a Quarter Pounder with Cheese), nothing else will do. I don’t think there’s a burger on Sonic’s menu that you can say the same for.

Jack in the Box

Why better than Sonic? For late night eats, both Sonic and Jack in the Box have strong hamburger options. But Jack in the Box has the larger ride-or-die following.
