Intro

We’ve all fallen for the hype – those trendy beauty products that everyone raves about, but end up being a letdown.
Social media and influencers can make some products seem a lot better than they actually are.
Well, I’m here to de-influence you.
Here are ten beauty products that just aren’t worth the hype…

Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter

I’m not going to lie, this one does give a nice glow…
But it’s basically an overpriced tinted primer.
It can also feel a little greasy if you have oily skin.
In my opinion, there are a ton of other products on the market that do the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

Beauty Blender

It’s $20 for a sponge… Need I say more?
Plus, it soaks up tons of product, wasting your foundation.
Not to mention these things are breeding grounds for bacteria, which you’re then putting on your face (yuck!).
It’s 2025. If you’re still using a Beauty Blender, what are you doing?
You’re better off using those little makeup sponge wedges or my personal favorite – a powder puff.

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara

I don’t understand all the hype with this mascara.
It clumps. It smudges. It dries out fast.
Come to think of it, I’ve never tried a high-end mascara that works better than drugstore mascara…
My all-time favorites are Maybelline Lash Sensational and L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara.

DIOR Lip Glow Oils

These are just shiny, slightly tinted lip glosses.
They’re not that hydrating – I found them to be sticky more than anything… and they wear off quickly.
You’re paying for the Dior name, not the formula.

Tatcha Skincare

Pretty packaging, but the formulas are nothing special.
The anti-aging/firming claims? Mostly marketing.
Again, you’re paying for branding, not better skin.

Summer Fridays Lip Balms

Can we admit these aren’t really that good?
I mean, they’re fine, but not life changing.
It’s a basic lip balm that you’ll be reapplying all day.
I still prefer the Laneige Lip Mask or Aquaphor for hydration that lasts.

Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops

These bronzing drops are super pricey for what’s essentially just a liquid bronzer.
Besides adding a bit of color, they don’t do anything special.
Trust me, this is a product you just don’t need!

Sol de Janeiro Perfume Mists

This might be an unpopular opinion, but these aren’t worth it.
Yes, they smell amazing, but they are body sprays and because of that, they fade fast.
They don’t last like real perfume, yet they cost almost as much.

Shiseido Fino Hair Mask

My hair hated this.
This viral hair mask has high levels of proteins, which did not work for my low porosity hair.
Everyone’s hair is so different, so it’s important to remember that just because a product is popular, does NOT mean it will work for you!

Expensive Setting Sprays

Many expensive setting sprays are just fancy water.
Sure, some of them can make your makeup look better, but they don’t actually lock in makeup.
Contrary to their name, not all setting sprays SET things in place.
That is what a FIXING spray is for.
So, if you’re looking for something that will make your makeup last all day or night, use a fixing spray like Urban Decay All Nighter.
