When you’re inside a Buc-ee’s gas station, it’s hard to imagine anything bigger.
It seems insulting to call it a gas station or a convenience store…it’s a borderline-life-changing experience!
Buc-ee’s does have the largest gas station in the world, but if we expand out a bit, there are bigger stores in the world.
Some MUCH bigger!

Even a “normal” Buc-ee’s travel center is likely to be above 50,000 square feet!
And newer ones keep expanding.
The original Buc-ee’s in Luling, Texas opened in 2003, so it was on the smaller side until it snatched the crown of of largest Buc-ee’s in the world with a recent remodel that took it to a whopping 75,593 square feet!
Keep that number in mind as we compare other stores to it…

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? Over 4 Buc-ee’s!
Out of North Dakota, Scheels is a sporting goods store. But not just any sporting goods store.
Like Buc-ee’s, it likes to be the biggest.
Since everything is indeed bigger in Texas, the largest Scheels is in The Colony (a suburb of Dallas). At 331,000 square feet, it’s the largest dedicated sports store in the world!

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? More than 7 Buc-ee’s!
There are currently four Nebraska Furniture Marts. It does indeed sell furniture but also so much more with appliances, electronics, and flooring.
The original one in Omaha, Nebraska is 450,000 square feet, which is darn impressive. But the one in the heart of Buc-ee’s country is a whopping 560,000 square feet! And that’s not including the 1,300,000 square feet for warehouse and distribution, which would take the size up to almost 18 Buc-ee’s!!!

Even a standard Wal-Mart is in the neighborhood of 100,000 square feet (i.e. bigger than any Buc-ee’s), but the largest Walmart Supercenter in Albany, New York is almost 260,000 square feet!

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? Over 3 Buc-ee’s!
A typical Costco is about 2 Buc-ee’s worth (around 150,000 square feet), but the largest Costco in Salt Lake City, Utah comes in at 235,000 square feet.
Like Buc-ee’s the record is always under threat. One in Fresno was rumored to be 241,000 square feet, but that was later reduced.

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? Over 7 Buc-ee’s!
Officially known as the Memphis Pyramid, it was once the temporary basketball arena for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies and hosted a Mike Tyson fight against Lennox Lewis.
After many uses over the years, it was left empty for much of the 2000’s before Bass Pro Shops signed a 55-year lease in 2010.
It’s an amazing store and the view from the observation deck is awesome!
And, yes, careful reader, if you wanted to count Bass Pro Shops as a sporting goods store, it would be bigger than Scheels.

Get this. Over in London, the Harrod’s department store is over a million square feet in size. Can you imagine 13+ Buc-ee’s side by side?!?!?
Originally built in the 1800’s, Harrod’s is a historical landmark at this point.

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? Almost 10 Buc-ee’s!
The typical IKEA is around 300,000 to 400,000 square feet. That’s huge!
But the biggest IKEA in the world is twice the size of a normal one.
It’s in the Philippines and it’s about 730,000 square feet … that’s a whole lot of BILLY bookcases!

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? 2 to 3 Bucee’s!
A regular Target can get to almost two Buc-ee’s in size but the Super Targets (which contain a full grocery store) can exceed 200,000 square feet!
If you’re comparing that’s a little under the largest Walmart Supercenters and Costcos.

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? About 60 Buc-ee’s!!!
OK, we’re cheating a little bit here and counting Amazon’s fulfillment centers as “stores.”
But we were curious…
The largest Amazon fulfillment center is in Ontario, California and is about 4.5 million square feet. That’s simply gigantic!

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? About 74 Buc-ee’s!!!
The Mall of America is a true attraction to compete with a Buc-ee’s stop.
At about 5.6 million square feet (not including the Nickelodeon Universe indoor amusement park pictured above, which would add about 300,000 square feet), it’s the largest mall in the Western Hemisphere!
Believe it or not, there are 11 bigger malls, all in the Middle East or Asia.

The largest Home Depots are a bit over 200,000 square feet, so in the same ballpark as the largest Targets, Costcos, and Walmarts.
I guess that’s why they call it “Big Box” retail!

How Many Buc-ee’s Is It? About 9 Buc-ee’s!
Another wonderful attraction, the Forum Shops at Caesars is on the Las Vegas Strip and measures about 675,000 square feet.
They have all kinds of stores, including super-high-end fashion like Burberry, Tom Ford, Tiffany, and Versace.
But I’d still rather go to a Buc-ee’s! How about you?
