As it turns out, many of our favorite (and nostalgic) frozen treats contain synthetic dyes that have now been banned by the FDA.
(And as if that wasn’t bad enough, a lot of popular kids’ cereals are facing the same issue.)

Here’s a partial list of the popsicles that now contain banned ingredients:
- Otter pops (Red 40, Yellow 5 and 6, Blue 1)
- Bomb pops (Blue 1, Red 40)
- Blue Ribbon Cool Tubes Orange (Yellow 6 – this is that orange sherbert push-pop we all know and love)
- Fla-Vor-Ice popsicles (Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6, Blue 1)
- Budget Saver Twin Ice Pops (Yellow 5 and Yellow 6, Red 40, Blue 1)
- Kroger Fruit Flavored Freezer Pops (Blue 1, Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6)
This is a voluntary ban – for now – with the FDA setting a timetable for recipes to change by the end of 2026.
So there’s plenty of time to see these dyes gradually phased out.
In the meantime – better to know than not, you know?
