Intro

For me, Texas Roadhouse definitely falls within the category of restaurants that can be described as: “delicious food, good prices, fun atmosphere.”
If you’ve ever been – and I bet you have – you know exactly what I mean. There’s just a good energy there every time I go.
Of course, every restaurant has its fair share of secret menu items, hacks, and improvements that savvy customers can ask for…

Intro (continued)

And Texas Roadhouse is no exception!
I’ve picked out seven of my favorites.
Some of them save you money.
Some of them cost money but get you a lot more food for the cost.
Some just switch part of one dish to a different flavor profile.
The only thing they all have in common?
Deliciousness.
Starting with a personal favorite…

Pulled pork cactus blossom

Why it’s great: Texas Roadhouse’s cactus blossom is a very, very good Bloomin’ onion knockoff (arguably better than the original? Ok, I said it).
Big bunch of fried onion petals, zesty sauce on the side for dipping, super indulgent.
But adding pulled pork takes this classic and elevates it to a whole different level.
The order: Just order a cactus blossom and ask to top it with pulled pork and bbq sauce – it’ll roughly double the cost of the cactus blossom, but at that point – honestly – it’s pretty much a full meal.

Steak sliders

Why it’s great: Love steak? Love sandwiches? Love them together? Hate how much you pay for them together? Then this is for you.
It’s an extremely simple order – as you’ll see in a moment – and it gets you the best of all worlds by leveraging easy access to Texas Roadhouse’s rolls.
The order: First: Order the lil’ dillo steak bites (that’s the kids’ meal), give your small child the side (just get them fries, they’ll love that best). Take the steak bites, open up a Texas Roadhouse roll, and stuff a couple in them. Bite down and enjoy.
^^ That’s the cheapest version. For a more expensive experience, order yourself a steak and cut it up, then put the slices on the rolls.

Chili cheese dog

Why it’s great: I mean, who doesn’t love a chili cheese dog? (Especially because – this is essentially a kids meal with a 50-cent upcharge attached…and with the added chili and cheese, suddenly it’s a full adult meal if you aren’t all THAT hungry.)
The order: Order the all-beef hot dog, then add chili and cheese for 50 cents. Simple, straightforward, filling, delicious. And best of all? Texas Roadhouse’s chili is primarily ground-up steak meat (ribeye, strip, sirloin, even filet) left over from when they trim their steaks – so you know you’re getting a great quality product.

Chili cheese cactus blossom

Why it’s great: I mean…come on. Obviously this is going to be amazing. You get a cactus blossom smothered in cheese and chili
The order: Order a cactus blossom, and then ask it to be topped with chili and cheese. They’ll tell you there’s an upcharge, which – fair enough – you say yes, and voila.
Trust me – it’s worth every penny. And you’ve turned an appetizer into essentially a full meal.

Parmesan garlic rolls

Why it’s great: I mean, you’re taking something that’s already good (Texas Roadhouse’s rolls) and elevating it still further (with garlic lemon butter and parmesan cheese). How much dinner will you even need after eating a basket of those?
It also makes for a fun combo with the honey cinnamon butter that Texas Roadhouse already provides with the rolls – you get more savory to contrast with the sweet.
The order: Just ask for your rolls to be topped with garlic lemon butter and parmesan cheese. Depending on the location and the server, they may tack on a small upcharge (I think I’ve paid 50 cents, like, once ever), but generally it should be free.

Grilled cheese (with options)

Why it’s great: You won’t find grilled cheese on the standard menu at Texas Roadhouse – or even on the kid’s menu! Fortunately, they’ve got everything they need to make one and should be able to easily do it. And you don’t have to “just” do grilled cheese – you can top with mushrooms for an elevated experience.
The order: Just ask for a grilled cheese (after acknowledging that it’s not on the menu). “Hey I was wondering if you could make a grilled cheese…” You can ask them to top it with mushrooms. And I’ve found it’s priced like a kid’s meal (which makes sense), so if you’re looking to save a buck, it’s a great way to make that happen.

Chocolate + caramel cheesecake

Why it’s great: Texas Roadhouse’s cheesecake is my favorite of their desserts (admittedly, there are only three options, so it’s not like there’s all THAT much competition…), and while their strawberry topping is perfectly fine, every now and then I like to change it up a bit. This hack is a great way to make that happen…
The order: Order the cheesecake and then ask if it can be topped with chocolate, toasted marshmallows, and honey cinnamon caramel sauce instead of the usual strawberry topping. They should have all those ingredients on hand, so it’s an easy
