“Are there good Burger Kings out there? Because in my mind they are essentially a void that I drive by without a second thought.”
That post on Reddit’s r/fastfood drew a lot of nodding agreement – but also plenty of pushback from customers who say their local Burger King is perfectly fine. The reality, it turns out, is somewhere in between: a chain with a genuinely loyal base that is nonetheless struggling to hold on to customers who’ve grown frustrated with inconsistency.

Burger King has long positioned itself on one key differentiator: its burgers are flame-broiled, not fried. It’s a claim the chain has made for decades, and for a lot of customers, it still holds. But a vocal contingent on Reddit says that distinctive char-grilled flavor has become harder to find.
The flame-grilled promise
“BK’s main selling point was their ‘flame broiled’ burgers but it’s been years since I’ve tasted that flavor,” one Reddit user wrote. “The meat patties are tasteless meat pucks.”
Not everyone agrees – threads about Burger King are full of customers defending specific locations and particular menu items. But the quality-consistency complaint comes up often enough that it’s hard to dismiss. “Some say when a BK is on point it’s amazing,” one commenter acknowledged, “but usually it is literal trash.” The problem, for many, isn’t that Burger King is always bad. It’s that you can’t count on it being good.
The price question
Pricing has added another layer of frustration for some customers. Reddit has accumulated its share of Burger King receipts over the years, and the numbers have climbed. For a chain that built part of its identity on value deals, the gap between what it used to cost and what it costs now is something customers notice.
“Every time I get food from there I feel like a chump for giving them another chance,” one Redditor wrote of their local location, though they were careful to note that other locations tell a different story.
Where things stand
Burger King isn’t going anywhere. It remains one of the largest fast food chains in the world, and plenty of customers remain perfectly happy with what they’re getting. But the brand has faced real headwinds, including declining same-store sales, location closures, and a customer base that increasingly feels the experience doesn’t match the price.
For those customers, the fix isn’t complicated. They just want the burger to taste like it used to, and the price to reflect what it is.
