Manufacturing jobs just keep disappearing across the country.
This time the victims are 450 loyal workers at the Red River Mill in Campti, Louisiana as International Paper folded up operations amid a nationwide reduction in operations.

The mill, which had been in operation for 50+ years, closed in April, bringing an abrupt end to a long story of craftsmanship and community.
The containerboard made at this particular mill was primarily used in food packaging, and International Paper estimates that the closure removes ~800,000 tons of containerboard production per year from its network.
And while I’m sure there’s lots of interesting stuff to write about the broader impact on food supply chains, my primary concern is for the workers whose lives have been upended by this closure.
