For nearly two decades, families, friends, and pizza lovers have gathered at a popular South Florida restaurant known for its authentic Italian recipes and welcoming atmosphere. Now, the longtime community favorite is preparing to serve its final meal, marking the end of an era for local diners.
Family-owned restaurant announces final day
La Fontana Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant in Coral Springs announced that it will permanently close on June 21, which also falls on Father’s Day this year. Owners Spartaco and Antonio Tare shared the news with customers in a heartfelt message, describing the decision as a difficult one after 18 years in business. The restaurant first opened in 2008 and became a staple at The Walk on University shopping center.
The brothers thanked customers, employees, family members, and business partners who helped support the restaurant throughout its nearly two-decade run. Several employees have reportedly worked at the restaurant for most of its 18-year history.
Return to Europe behind closure
Unlike many recent restaurant closures tied to financial challenges, La Fontana’s owners said the primary reason for the closure is their planned return to Europe. Originally from Ferrara, Italy, the brothers said they are beginning a new chapter after years of serving the Coral Springs community.
The restaurant earned a loyal following for its wood-fired pizzas, focaccia bread, homemade pasta dishes, and traditional Italian desserts. Its courtyard seating and family-friendly atmosphere helped make it a popular gathering place for local residents.
Community reacts to the news
The announcement sparked an outpouring of support from longtime customers, many of whom shared memories of family dinners and celebrations held at the restaurant over the years. Community members described La Fontana as a local institution and expressed sadness over its upcoming departure.
For now, customers still have a few weeks to enjoy one last meal before La Fontana closes its doors for good on June 21.
