For this extremely objective and scientific review, I sat down and tried a few bites of each of the donuts at my local Dunkin’ that looked particularly appetizing. It was a real sacrifice, but I did it. For science!
(Note well – this means I didn’t try every donut at Dunkin’ – who could do that all in one sitting? – just the ones that looked particularly good. So, for example, I skipped their regular glazed, because, let’s face it, we’ve all had a billion of them.)
Oh, and I also should warn you that, like anyone else who eats donuts as an excuse to blog about them, I have a real sweet tooth. So if you’re looking for balanced donuts that aren’t loaded with sugar…this is probably not your article, and we will probably never be friends.

So yes – out of the literally dozens of donuts at Dunkin’ – I’ve narrowed it all down to the top five. Get excited.
#5: Glazed blueberry munchkins
I’ve always been a sucker for donut holes…er….munchkins. I’m not sure if they quite count as donuts to most people, but I’m writing the article, so I’m classifying them as donuts. I mean, they’re made from the same stuff, right? Just smaller. (Which means you can eat a few before they count.) I’ve always loved a little fruit with my breakfast (makes it healthy, right?), and blueberries are great when paired with sugar and fried dough. These blueberry munchkins are absolutely delicious, strongly recommend any time.
#4: Double chocolate donut
When I’m in the mood for chocolate – very frequently – the only thing better than chocolate is…more chocolate. Dunkin’s double chocolate donut fully satiates that need, which is not an easy thing to do. The donut itself is kind of cakey – I don’t think it quite counts as a cake donut, but it’s definitely thicker and less dough-y than your traditional glazed donut – and that’s great. I prefer the crispier texture, especially when I’ve got chocolate glaze to smooth it out at the top. This is a fantastic donut that I’ve come back to many times over the years, and it’s well worth the fourth place on this list.
(And if you want to make your own at home, this chocolate donut recipe gets you pretty close.)
#3: Sour cream donut
Ok, I know I said I wasn’t going to cover the regular glazed, and I meant it. I do, however, have a real weakness for sour cream donuts, because they’re cakier and crispier and just a whole lot more delicious. Plus, the sour cream gives them this more complex and fuller taste that just really resonates. Dunkin’s sour cream donuts are the best I’ve ever had at a major chain. I always make time (and room) for sour cream donuts, and in my opinion, so should you.
#2: Jelly donut
Jelly-filled donuts are my shortcut to happiness. Dunkin’ doesn’t say what flavor the jelly is, but it tastes like raspberry to me. (That little bit of delicious tartness helps cut through the sweetness of the donut itself and the powdered sugar topping.) The ingredients aren’t a whole lot of help either – according to Dunkin‘, the jelly is made from (amongst a whole lot of other things), apple juice concentrate, citric acid, fruit and vegetable juice, and natural and artificial flavors. So maybe you could argue it’s raspberry with a hint of apple? I don’t know – it just tastes like raspberry to me.
But anyway, if you loved jam-filled donuts as a kid (or Jammy Dodgers over in the UK), you’ll love this donut. It’s so nostalgic, and so delicious.
Oh, and if you’d rather make your own jelly, here‘s a simple way to do that.
#1: Boston Kreme
Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be. First off, Boston Kreme is that perfect combination of chocolate glaze and creamy filling that anyone who loves sweets (like yours truly) is pretty much guaranteed to find delicious. Plus, it’s poetic – Dunkin’ Donuts was founded in Quincy, Massachusetts (in 1948) and is currently headquartered in Canton, which is a suburb of…you guessed it…Boston.
So dig in and enjoy – just keep a napkin handy, the chocolate gets everywhere!

FAQ
Pretty sure the answer is their original glazed donut – it’s a safe bet, nobody dislikes it, exactly, and it’s usually the flavor when people buy a couple dozen donuts for the office.
Dunkin’s most unhealthy donut is probably the glazed jelly stick, which clocks in at a whopping 540 calories, 37g of sugar, and 30g of fat! Admittedly, it tastes awesome – but the calories are the price you pay!
