Not only does your hair type influence which hair oils you should be using, but hair color does too!
And if you have blond hair, especially light blond hair, you know what it takes to keep it that way.
Many natural oils have a darker hue which could darken your hair, and others have hair-lightening properties, such as lemon and chamomile essential oils.
So, today I’ll be exploring all of the best hair oils for blond hair and those to avoid to preserve that color!

Best hair oils for blond hair
For blond hair, a light, nourishing oil that won’t weigh down the hair or leave a greasy residue is ideal. It’s best to choose a clear or light-colored oil if you’re worried about darkening your color.
Here are the best hair oils I recommend for blondes:
1. Moringa Oil
Rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, moringa oil deeply nourishes blond hair without weighing it down. It promotes hair growth and strengthens strands, leaving your locks with a healthy sheen.
2. Marula Oil
Extracted from the marula fruit, this lightweight oil is easily absorbed by blond hair, imparting moisture and enhancing its natural shine. Marula oil also contains vitamin E, which helps combat dryness and frizz.
3. Camellia Oil
Also known as tea seed oil, camellia oil is lightweight and non-greasy, making it suitable for blond hair that tends to become oily quickly. It helps to smooth the hair cuticle, reduce frizz, and enhance shine.
4. Coconut Oil
Renowned for its moisturizing properties, coconut oil deeply conditions blond hair, reducing protein loss and preventing damage. It enhances shine and manageability, leaving your locks soft and supple.
5. Sunflower Seed Oil
Packed with vitamins and minerals, sunflower seed oil nourishes the scalp and strengthens hair follicles, promoting healthier growth. Its light texture makes it an excellent option for blond hair, imparting softness and manageability.
The Kerastase Blond Absolu Cicaextreme Strengthening Hair Oil is one of my favorite hair oils for damaged blond hair, and it’s made with sunflower seed oil and edelweiss flower.
6. Jojoba Oil
Similar in composition to the natural oils produced by the scalp, jojoba oil regulates sebum production and balances moisture levels in blond hair. It strengthens hair strands, preventing breakage and promoting a glossy finish.
7. Macadamia Oil
With its ability to penetrate the hair shaft, macadamia oil deeply hydrates and repairs damaged blond hair from within. It tames frizz and adds elasticity, leaving your locks silky smooth.
8. Sweet Almond Oil
This lightweight oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish and strengthen blond hair. It helps detangle strands, making styling easier, while imparting a healthy sheen.
9. Grapeseed Oil
Extracted from grape seeds, this light oil is rich in antioxidants and omega-6 fatty acids, which nourish and protect blond hair from environmental stressors. It absorbs quickly, leaving no greasy residue behind.
10. Chamomile Oil
Chamomile has natural lightening properties that are ideal for blond or golden highlighted hair. Plus, it’s one of the best essential oils for shine!
11. Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil can help brighten and enhance the natural highlights in blond hair due to its clarifying properties, but it should be diluted properly before use to avoid potential irritation or adverse effects on the scalp and hair.
What oils to avoid for blond hair
Some oils may discolor blond hair over time. Try to avoid anything that isn’t clear, such as honey or dark-colored hair oils that may darken or turn your hair brassy over time.
Indian oils like amla and brahmi, along with castor oil, can gradually darken blond hair, altering its appearance. Plus, if your hair is on the finer side, these are likely too heavy for your hair anyways.
While some people with blond hair like argan oil, I’ve heard of it imparting a brownish tint to blond hair over time, so keep that in mind, as argan oil is a very popular ingredient in hair oils. Morroccanoil makes a light version specifically for light-colored and fine hair, which is what I recommend using instead.
FAQs
For blond hair, I recommend lighter oils like jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil, and camellia oil.
For blonde hair, essential oils like chamomile, lemon, and Roman chamomile are particularly beneficial. Chamomile essential oil can enhance blonde tones and add brightness to the hair. Lemon essential oil can help to lighten hair naturally and add shine, while Roman chamomile oil can soothe the scalp and promote healthy hair growth, which is especially beneficial for maintaining the health of blonde hair.
In my experience, coconut oil is an excellent choice for repairing damaged blond hair. A light argan oil is also a good choice, such as Moroccanoil Light Treatment.
While argan oil is popular in hair care, I’d exercise caution with blond hair. It can gradually darken blond strands, imparting a taupe brown tint over time, which may not be desirable for maintaining a pure blonde shade.
