This bulletproof coffee recipe uses keto-friendly fats like grass-fed butter and MCT oil to make a delicious fat-burning breakfast coffee.
Initially coined by Dave Asprey, bulletproof coffee has become a staple for many, myself included!
I follow an intermittent fasting lifestyle and a ketogenic diet and have reaped many benefits from this way of eating, including weight loss, mental clarity, and more energy.
When I first began, transitioning to becoming fat-adapted was difficult for me. That’s when I discovered how bulletproof coffee could help me get into ketosis and easily do extended fasts.
Adding fat to my coffee gives me the energy to make it through the morning without spiking my insulin. Once my body adapted and got into ketosis, I could do extended fasts and found it easier to follow a ketogenic diet.

How To Make Bulletproof Coffee (Bulletproof Coffee Recipe)
You’ll need a cup of freshly brewed coffee, MCT oil, grass-fed butter or ghee (you can make your own ghee – also coconut oil works too), and a blender.
Carefully pour the coffee into the blender and add the MCT oil and butter. Place the lid on the blender and blend on low until the butter melts and is incorporated into the coffee. Pour the coffee into a mug and enjoy!
Bulletproof Coffee Recipe FAQ
Can I add sweetener to my coffee?
You can, but it’s best to skip the sweetener if your goal is weight loss. Stevia and monk fruit are natural zero-calorie sweeteners that are considered healthy keto-sweeteners.
Can I make this recipe dairy-free?
Yes! Use ghee or coconut oil instead of butter.
What is MCT oil?
Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) also known as medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), are a unique form of saturated fatty acid that have a variety of medicinal properties. Roughly 65 percent of the fatty acids found in coconut oil are MCT’s. Read more about MCT Oil here.
