Introduction

I’ve got all the details on how to eat gluten-free at Burger King right here.
And I’ll tell you straight-up: They unfortunately do NOT make it easy.
But there are still some pretty good options.
Here’s everything you need to know:

Cross-contamination

Before anything else, it’s worth noting: All restaurants carry some risk of cross-contamination due to shared food prep surfaces.
Burger King carries an even higher risk because of the fact that it uses shared fryers for foods containing gluten (onion rings, hashbrowns) and foods that don’t (French fries).
Consult your own risk tolerance and a medical professional before deciding whether to eat any food at Burger King!
The risks for drinks should be less since they aren’t prepped using shared surfaces, but I’d still ask employees to change their gloves to limit the risk of cross-contamination.

What is NOT gluten-free at Burger King

Unfortunately, every sandwich at Burger King contains gluten because of their buns.
That includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, and breakfast sandwiches.
Same with everything fried chicken – gluten is in the breading – so there’s gluten in chicken nuggets, chicken fries, and chicken sandwiches.
Onion rings and hash browns both have gluten as well.

Gluten-free food options

Surprisingly enough, French fries are gluten-free at Burger King!
(As long as you’re ok with potential cross-contamination, since they share a fryer with onion rings and hash browns, which both have gluten.)
The other gluten-free food options are sides and desserts:
Oatmeal
Applesauce
Soft serve cup
Hershey’s Chocolate Sundae
Vanilla and chocolate shakes

Expanding your gluten-free options

As I mentioned earlier, most of the sandwiches aren’t gluten-free because of their buns.
Remove the buns, and (if you’re ok with potential for cross-contamination) most of the beef burgers should be fine.
(Remember – chicken and fish sandwiches both have gluten in the breading, so those are still no-go.)

To summarize…

It’s tough to get a full meal at Burger King if you’re gluten-intolerant, and that goes double if you need to avoid cross-contamination.
But you should feel free to grab a drink there on your way to something bigger and better!
(And if you’re ok with potential cross-contamination, the fries are pretty good!)
