Intro

There are well over 10,000 McDonald’s locations in the U.S. and more than 40,000 worldwide!
America was the birthplace of McDonald’s and still has the most locations of any country.
But which state has the MOST McDonald’s? Let’s count them down!

#10: Georgia

Locations: 445
Justin Bieber gets his peaches out in Georgia, and he can certainly get his Big Macs and fries there, too!
If you’re wondering, we haven’t seen any peach sightings currently on the US menu, but there are in other countries, including a Peach & Yogurt Frappe in Malta.

#9: North Carolina

Locations: 469
The land of NASCAR and vinegar-infused barbecue is no slouch when it comes to McDonald’s either!
Barbecue lovers can get the barbecue sauce with their Chicken McNuggets and can occasionally get the McRib sandwich when it makes occasionally appearances on the menu.

#8: Pennsylvania

Locations: 473
Pennsylvania comes in 8th, but if you’re in Pittsburgh, we’d still recommend a Primanti Bros. sandwich complete with the fries and coleslaw on it.
And if you’re in Philly, go for the cheesesteak…Pat’s beats Geno’s.

#7: Michigan

Locations: 524
Michigan has over 500 McDonald’s locations to pair with its excellent Detroit-style pizza!

#6: New York

Locations: 573
Punching a little below its weight class (it’s the fourth most populous state), New York comes in sixth place.
We suspect that New York City is so densely populated that there simply isn’t enough room for enough McDonald’s locations to keep up with that population ranking.

#5 Ohio

Locations: 611
If New York punches below its weight class, Ohio punches up from 7th-most-populous to #5 on this list.
Fun fact: You can find just about any chain restaurant concept in Columbus because it’s a premier market testing location.

#4: Illinois

Locations: 641
The birthplace of Ray Kroc (Oak Park) and the corporate home (Chicago) of McDonald’s are both in Illinois.
And Chicago is the #2 city in the US for McDonald’s locations. We’ll learn #1 soon!

#3: Florida

Locations: 869
Like the rest of America, Florida Man loves McDonald’s!
And Miami and Orlando are both top-10 McDonald’s cities.
Shutterstock
#2: Texas

Locations: 1,163
Texas is only #2 but Houston is #1 for McDonald’s city locations with over 100 restaurants.
Dallas and San Antonio also have their fair share, making Texas the only state with 3 top-10 McDonald’s cities!
Shutterstock
#1: California

Locations: 1,224
You may associate California with In-N-Out Burgers, but there are more than 4 McDonald’s for every In-N-Out Burger location in California!
Even a local favorite can’t touch the dominance of McDonald’s!
