Chick‑fil‑A is dramatically increasing its presence across Michigan, planning to nearly double the number of restaurants in the state by the end of 2028. The Atlanta‑based chicken sandwich chain already operates around 28 locations in the Great Lakes State. It now has ambitious goals to bring roughly 25–30 new locally owned and operated restaurants across communities large and small throughout Michigan.
New restaurants and job growth
Officials say the coming openings will create more than 2,500 new jobs statewide, spanning full‑ and part‑time positions.
Several new Chick‑fil‑A locations have already opened, and many are projected to open soon:
- Detroit/Ann Arbor region — multiple restaurants planned, including in Chesterfield Township, Roseville, Taylor, and Fort Gratiot, as well as future sites in downtown Detroit, Auburn Hills, Lincoln Park, Orion Township, Canton, and Ann Arbor.
- Mid‑Michigan — Jackson welcomed a new restaurant with about 110 team members last April, and Saginaw Township opened its location in early 2025.
- Lansing/Jackson area — two more locations are expected to open sometime this year.
- Benton Harbor — new location opened a year ago.
In addition, reports indicate Chick‑fil‑A plans to open a restaurant in the Bay City area in Spring 2026, further expanding its Mid‑Michigan footprint.
Why Michigan?
Some states have only a few Chick-fil-A locations, while others have none (sorry, Alaska and Vermont!). .Why is Chick-fil-A doubling its Michigan locations? (It’s also targeting Ohio for a massive expansion)
Scott Mayson, Chick-fil-A’s Area Director for the Midwest Region, says, “With a unique blend of rural, suburban and city neighborhoods, Michigan is filled with tight‑knit communities and proud residents. When looking to identify new opportunities to serve Guests and support local communities and economic development, expanding our presence in Michigan was a clear next step.”
Michigan Chick-fil-A fans are excited!
For Michigan residents, this expansion means more convenient access to Chick‑fil‑A’s chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and signature hospitality. It also signals confidence from one of the nation’s most popular fast‑food brands in the state’s long‑term growth as a restaurant market.
