One of downtown Miami’s most recognizable restaurants is preparing to serve its final guests after more than 30 years in business. The longtime waterfront destination has welcomed millions of locals and tourists since opening in the early 1990s, making its upcoming closure the end of an era for the city.
Final day set for August
The Hard Rock Cafe at Bayside Marketplace will permanently close on August 19, 2026, after approximately 33 years in operation. According to company officials, the restaurant’s lease is expiring and will not be renewed.
A notice filed under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act indicates that 117 employees will be affected by the closure. Hard Rock International said eligible team members will have the opportunity to transfer to other company-operated locations throughout Florida.
A longtime Miami landmark
Since opening in 1993, the restaurant has become a familiar stop for visitors exploring Bayside Marketplace and the downtown waterfront. Known for its collection of rock-and-roll memorabilia, classic American fare and views overlooking Biscayne Bay, the location has remained a popular destination for tourists, cruise passengers and longtime fans of the brand.
The closure comes as Miami continues to experience significant redevelopment and rising commercial real estate costs, leading some long-established businesses to leave high-profile locations.
What happens next?
While the Miami restaurant is closing, Hard Rock International continues to operate numerous cafes, hotels and casinos worldwide, including several locations across Florida. The company has not announced what business, if any, will replace the restaurant space at Bayside Marketplace.
For many Miami residents, however, the closure represents more than the loss of another restaurant. After more than three decades of serving guests along the city’s waterfront, the Hard Rock Cafe has become part of the area’s history, making its August farewell a notable moment for Florida’s dining scene.
