Florida has already had a tough enough 2025 – but unfortunately, the pain looks set to continue.
After losing factories throughout the year…it looks like the Sunshine State will get no reprieve as more waves of layoffs hit.

More specifically, Mizkan America recently shut down bottling operations at its plant in Lake Alfred, at the cost of 57 good manufacturing jobs.
(Other operations at the factory, including bulk vinegar production and warehousing, continue, fortunately.)
While companies are usually pretty coy about the specifics of any closure – this particular shutdown is happening against the backdrop of huge headwinds faced by the broader food industry.
More specifically, the trade war has caused massive impacts across the board as retaliatory tariffs and even boycotts of American goods in foreign markets have caused international demand to crater.
Of course, these new pressures join longstanding issues – inflation, old equipment at plants, and labor shortages – that have plagued the broader food production industry for years.
The problem, of course, is that falling demand from international markets, plus these increased cost pressures, make it difficult for companies to maintain their margins – there just aren’t enough buyers!
So companies try to cut costs. The only problem is – as workers lose their jobs, their own consumption declines, as well as the consumption of friends and neighbors who fear they could be laid off soon, too.
Further declines in domestic demand erode what companies are able to sell, potentially leading to further production cuts and more job losses.
It’s a vicious cycle, and far too many Floridians are already suffering its impacts.
So please join us in sending well wishes to the impacted workers – this is a tough job market, and they’re going to need all the good vibes they can get. Leave a comment supporting them, and please share this article widely so more people hear of their plight!
