Intro

As the ads say, “Arby’s: We have the meats!”
And they certainly do with their roast beef sandwich, burgers, cold cuts, a gyro, and even a Reuben!
That said, if meat is what you’re craving, there are other SERIOUS contenders for the title of Meat King.
Let’s see if these seven contenders are truly better than Arby’s…

Hardee’s

Meat bona fides: Hardee’s Frisco Burger (or the Double Hardee’s Frisco, of course) is maybe the best representative here…think a quarter-pound patty, bacon, swiss, tomato, and mayo on toasted sourdough bread.

Cane’s

Meat bona fides: Cane’s specializes in chicken fingers. Why is it special? Because of the chicken fingers are consistency juicy and delicious. If you think that’s unspectacular, pay attention next time you get the chicken strips, tenders, and fingers at its competitors!

Dickey’s/Famous Dave’s

Meat bona fides: It was a no-brainer to include the largest chain of barbecue joints in the U.S. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken, turkey, and Polish kielbasa. It’s hard to beat barbecue for the parade of meats!

Steak ‘n Shake

Meat bona fides: Steakburgers…the name alone makes me salivate! Add to that chili, hot dogs, and chicken fingers, and you’ve got a solid contender!

El Pollo Loco

Meat bona fides: It’s all about El Pollo Loco’s marinated, flame-grilled chicken, whether you eat it straight up, in burritos, tacos, salads, tostadas, or bowls!

Skyline Chili

Meat bona fides: Cincinnati is famous for its chili because of Skyline Chili, the ultimate meat soup! And don’t worry, they have hot dogs to go with the chili (Try their Cheese Coneys).

Five Guys

Meat bona fides: The meatiest, best burger out there. The proof is that a regular hamburger comes with two patties. The hot dog is great, too.

Arby’s

Meat bona fides: It’s rare to find the variety of meaty sandwiches Arby’s has, much less from a fast food joint. The roast beef alone gets Arby’s in contention, but you can get burgers, chicken, and sometimes fish. And then smokehouse brisket, turkey sandwiches, gyros, and the corned beef reuben.
Arby’s does indeed have the meats!
But is is the meat king? Or is it one of the other contenders we’ve highlighted?
