Intro

If you’re anything like me, you’ve eaten a ton of M&Ms over the years.
So many flavors…
So many colors…
So many options!
But let’s face it –

Intro (continued)

There are a ton of other great candies out there, and competition has intensified over the years.
I’ve selected a few whose fans would claim they’re even better than M&Ms.
Are they right? Well, that’s for you to decide.
But let’s get started with one of the most similar candies out there (at least to peanut butter M&Ms)…

Reese’s pieces

I’ll tell you a secret – my favorite M&Ms are the peanut butter variety, and Reese’s pieces are even a little better than them in my opinion.
Nothing like peanut butter, chocolate, and a candy coating!

Smarties (not the ones you’re thinking of)

When I say “Smarties,” most people think of the chalky, mostly tasteless candy some of us unfortunately got a lot of at Halloween.
I’m talking about European Smarties – which have a thick and crunchy candy shell and delicious chocolate in the middle.
Highly recommend.

Cadbury mini eggs

If you’ve ever had Cadbury mini eggs at Easter (they’re in stores now), you know what a treat they are.
Genuinely an upgrade from M&Ms, though I hate to say it of course!

Junior mints

I used to get Junior mints whenever I went to the movie theater, and I still love their sweet minty flavor.
Definitely a treat any time I can get them.

Rolos

Rolos “feel” a little old-fashioned as a candy, right?
And no wonder – they’ve been around since 1937!
But they’re still delicious, with that perfect combination of chocolate and caramel.

Kinder bueno minis

Ok, I know that Kinder bars aren’t really all that directly comparable to M&Ms, but I figured the minis kind of count?
Maybe?
Listen, they’re great – the cream they’re filled with is just absolutely fantastic, and it really fills that “need candy, with filling” need.

Whoppers

I know that malted milk balls aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
But they’re delicious – especially on ice cream – and Whoppers are easily the best-known brand of the bunch.
Grab a box. You’ll be glad you did.

And of course…M&Ms

Ok, I couldn’t leave without giving M&Ms their due.
After all, it’s not like there’s only one kind of M&M.
You like pretzels? They’ve got M&Ms for that.
Same with caramel. Milk chocolate. Dark chocolate. Peanuts. And so many more flavors!
(Some of which are pretty esoteric, for sure.)

Summary

So there you have it – seven candies that each can lay claim to being equivalent to – or maybe even better than – M&Ms.
Each has a good argument to make.
But the real question:

Are they right?
Or are M&Ms still the best?
Or, for that matter, do you have other candies to add to the list?
