We’re seeing even more rough news out of Indiana, as job losses pile up.
After losing several factories earlier this year…
Indiana is unfortunately losing even more manufacturing jobs later this week.

More specifically, Perdue Farms is closing a shift at its turkey plant in Washington, Indiana, at the cost of 293 jobs.
The layoffs are expected to take affect on Friday, October 10th – a sad day for a town of less than 13,000 residents.
A bigger city could absorb more of those job losses with other employment opportunities, but unfortunately in a town this small, many of the newly unemployed could struggle to find new work.
The meatpacking industry has been in a downturn for years as demand for turkey declines across the US, and recent events have only poured fuel on the fire.
More specifically, the trade war has delivered a one-two punch to the American economy in general (and food producers in particular) that has put us in real danger of a recession.
Many foreign markets have ramped down demand for American products (often via boycotts), which has caused many American food producers to reduce production and institute a round of layoffs.
Those layoffs, combined with the spreading fears of additional layoffs, have led to domestic demand declining as well as Americans tighten their belts.
This, of course, risks a spiral with more jobs being cut to reduce production.
So Perdue’s decision here makes sense – but that’s cold comfort for the hardworking Indianans who are about to lose their jobs.
