Mercer County, Pennsylvania, has lost its only Red Lobster. The chain named November 1, 2026, as the permanent closing date for its longtime restaurant at 3370 Shenango Valley Freeway in Hermitage, leaving local customers without a Red Lobster on their side of the Ohio state line.
The shutdown extends a national wave of Red Lobster restaurant closures. The seafood chain emerged from bankruptcy in September 2024, but it is still trimming locations as executives try to put a smaller, stronger business on solid footing.

Why the Hermitage restaurant closed
Red Lobster confirmed the November 1 closing date to Youngstown television station WKBN on October 19. A company representative pointed to conditions specific to the restaurant, saying the chain regularly evaluates individual locations based on their performance and lease terms.
The company did not identify a particular rent increase or disclose whether the Hermitage restaurant was losing money. It also did not provide a number of affected employees. When WKBN asked whether workers would receive help finding other jobs, Red Lobster did not address the question.
The departure leaves a gap for Shenango Valley diners accustomed to the chain’s seafood platters, Cheddar Bay Biscuits and nautical-themed dining room. Red Lobster restaurants in Boardman and Niles, Ohio, were still listed as nearby options when the Hermitage closure was announced.
Red Lobster is still rebuilding after Chapter 11
Red Lobster Management LLC and affiliated operating businesses filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2024 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. The process allowed the restaurant business to reorganize rather than liquidate its entire chain.
The court approved its restructuring that September. Under a transaction completed on September 16, 2024, RL Investor Holdings LLC acquired Red Lobster. The buyer was backed by funds affiliated with Fortress Investment Group, along with TCW Private Credit and Blue Torch. Red Lobster exited bankruptcy and continued operating under its new ownership.
Yet the closures kept coming. Nation’s Restaurant News reported that Red Lobster had 484 U.S. restaurants listed as of September 8, 2026, down from 520 at the end of 2025. That was a reduction of 36 locations in a little more than eight months, before the Hermitage announcement.
Chief executive Damola Adamolekun said earlier in 2026 that more closures could be necessary even as the chain’s business showed signs of improvement. Red Lobster has described its effort as concentrating resources on stronger restaurants, renovations and a better experience for guests.
What the closure means for nearby diners
The Hermitage shutdown does not mean Red Lobster is disappearing from western Pennsylvania or neighboring Ohio. The company has not announced that the Boardman or Niles locations are closing, and no replacement Red Lobster in Mercer County has been confirmed.
For local customers, the loss is immediate: another familiar dining room has left the community. For Red Lobster, the decision shows that the restaurant-by-restaurant overhaul is continuing more than two years after its Chapter 11 case ended.
