Another Red Lobster restaurant has permanently closed, further reducing the seafood chain’s presence in Connecticut as it continues to reshape its operations following its 2024 bankruptcy.
The company’s Bridgeport location, at 4485 Main Street in the Brookside Center shopping plaza, closed late last month. Customers calling the restaurant are now directed to Red Lobster’s three remaining Connecticut locations in Danbury, North Haven, and Wethersfield.
Connecticut footprint continues to shrink
The Bridgeport closure marks the latest chapter in Red Lobster’s ongoing effort to streamline its restaurant portfolio. Over the years, the chain has also exited Connecticut locations in East Hartford, Enfield, and Torrington, leaving just three restaurants operating statewide.
The closure comes as Red Lobster continues recovering from the financial challenges that culminated in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in May 2024. The company emerged from bankruptcy later that year under new ownership and has spent the past two years working to stabilize its business.
Turnaround efforts continue
Red Lobster has attributed its financial struggles to a difficult economic environment, increased competition, and unsuccessful business strategies. Industry analysts have also pointed to the chain’s widely publicized Ultimate Endless Shrimp promotion, which became a permanent menu offering in 2023. The promotion proved far more popular than expected, creating supply challenges and putting pressure on profits.
Despite continuing to close underperforming restaurants, the company has signaled it remains focused on rebuilding the brand. Red Lobster recently unveiled a “new-stalgia” restaurant refresh program that blends updated interiors with familiar features, including the chain’s signature nautical décor and live lobster tanks, as part of its broader turnaround strategy.
While Red Lobster has not announced additional Connecticut closures, the Bridgeport shutdown reflects the company’s continued evaluation of its restaurant footprint as it works to return to long-term profitability.
