Florida is emerging as one of the states most affected by Wendy’s ongoing restaurant reduction strategy, with dozens of locations disappearing as the fast-food chain works to improve profitability and modernize its footprint.
The company has been closing underperforming restaurants nationwide as part of its turnaround initiative known as “Project Fresh.” Wendy’s executives previously said the plan could result in the closure of roughly 300 to 350 restaurants across the United States during the first half of 2026.

Tallahassee location among recent closures
One of the most notable recent Florida closures occurred in Tallahassee, where the Bradfordville Wendy’s location permanently shut down. Reports indicated the restaurant was among the chain’s underperforming locations targeted for closure under the company’s restructuring effort.
The Tallahassee market has reportedly seen several Wendy’s closures since late 2025, highlighting the broader impact of the company’s strategy in Florida.
Why Wendy’s is closing restaurants
Like many fast-food chains, Wendy’s has faced pressure from rising labor costs, inflation, and increasingly cautious consumer spending. Company leaders say removing weaker-performing restaurants will allow franchisees and operators to focus resources on stronger locations, remodels, digital ordering improvements, and value-focused promotions.
Although more closures could occur, Wendy’s has also stated it plans to continue opening new restaurants in select growth markets as part of its long-term strategy.
