A popular California breakfast chain is saying goodbye to three longtime locations, with the restaurants serving their final customers today.
Breakfast Republic is permanently closing three San Diego County restaurants on Sunday, Aug. 9, as its parent company reshapes its restaurant portfolio and focuses on expansion in other markets.
Three restaurants are closing
The closures affect Breakfast Republic locations in North Park, Encinitas, and Ocean Beach.
The North Park restaurant at 2730 University Ave. is particularly significant because it was the chain’s original location when Breakfast Republic opened in 2015. The Encinitas restaurant opened in 2016, while the Ocean Beach location followed in 2017.
The Encinitas restaurant is located at 251 N. El Camino Real, while the Ocean Beach location is at 4839 Newport Ave.
The company said the closures are related to expiring leases and strategic portfolio decisions. The North Park location also faces a different situation because the property’s owner plans to sell the building.
Breakfast Republic isn’t leaving California
Despite the three closures, Breakfast Republic is not shutting down.
Several San Diego restaurants will remain open, including locations in East Village, Liberty Station, Mission Valley, Pacific Beach, and Scripps Ranch. The chain also operates restaurants elsewhere in California.
In fact, the company is planning to expand. New Breakfast Republic locations are planned for Palm Springs, Huntington Beach, and Los Angeles, while the parent company is also preparing to introduce its Breakfast Company concept to Texas.
The Palm Springs restaurant is expected to open in October, with the Huntington Beach and Highland Park locations expected to follow early next year.
For San Diego customers, however, today marks the final opportunity to visit three longtime Breakfast Republic restaurants before they permanently close their doors.
