A longtime Italian restaurant on Long Island is preparing to serve its final guests, as a national dining chain continues to reduce its restaurant footprint across the country.
Maggiano’s Little Italy has confirmed it will permanently close its Garden City, New York, restaurant on September 28, 2026. Located at Roosevelt Field, the restaurant has served Long Island diners since 2015 and is currently the chain’s only location on Long Island.
Lease expiration behind the closure
The closure was announced in late July after Brinker International, Maggiano’s parent company, confirmed it would not renew the restaurant’s lease. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with New York state on July 30, 2026, approximately 57 employees are expected to be affected by the closure.
Company officials said the decision is tied to the lease expiration and is part of an ongoing effort to optimize the chain’s restaurant portfolio rather than an indication that the Maggiano’s brand is shutting down.
Chain continues to shrink nationwide
The Garden City restaurant is one of two Maggiano’s locations scheduled to close this September. The company also plans to close its Beachwood, Ohio, restaurant on September 27, reducing Maggiano’s footprint to 48 restaurants nationwide.
Over the past year and a half, the chain has also closed restaurants in Virginia and California as it focuses on markets where it sees stronger long-term growth opportunities.
Despite the closures, Brinker International says Maggiano’s remains an important part of its restaurant portfolio and continues to serve customers in dozens of locations across the United States.
End of an era for Long Island diners
For many Long Island residents, the Garden City restaurant has been a popular destination for birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings and holiday celebrations since opening more than a decade ago.
Guests who want to visit the restaurant one last time have until September 28 before the doors permanently close, bringing an end to Maggiano’s only Long Island location and another chapter in the chain’s ongoing effort to streamline its operations.
