For generations of customers, Pizza Hut was more than a place to grab a pizza. Two New Hampshire locations have now closed their doors, marking the end of an era for longtime customers in Concord and Dover.
Two locations close
The Pizza Hut at 148 Loudon Road in Concord and the restaurant at 915 Central Ave. in Dover both permanently closed Sunday, August 23. The Concord location had operated for more than 40 years, making its closure particularly significant for the community.
The Concord restaurant was also part of a multigenerational story for some employees. One waitress worked there for more than three decades, while her mother had worked at the same location from 1975 to 1995.
A notice posted inside the Concord restaurant thanked customers for their loyalty and teased a โnew location coming soon,โ although no details about a replacement restaurant have been announced.
Closures come during major changes
The New Hampshire closures arrive as Pizza Hut faces a significant transition. In June, parent company Yum Brands announced plans to sell the chain in a deal valued at $2.7 billion.
Private equity firm LongRange Capital agreed to acquire Pizza Hut’s business outside mainland China for approximately $1.5 billion, while Yum China agreed to purchase the mainland China business for about $1.2 billion.
The closures also reflect broader changes in the pizza industry. The rise of online ordering and third-party delivery services has transformed how customers buy pizza, while traditional sit-down restaurants have faced increasing pressure.
A changing Pizza Hut
The two New Hampshire closures are part of a larger period of change for Pizza Hut. The chain has been working to adapt its restaurant footprint and business model while preparing for new ownership.
For Concord customers, however, the closure represents something more personal: the loss of a familiar restaurant that had been part of the community for more than four decades.
